The reboot title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 still has more things to show us in E3 this year. This title had been confirmed before E3 2019 kicked off, and there have been a lot of great features for this game revealed. But in E3, Infinity Ward (developer of the game) and Activision (publisher of the game) still leak more details of this game for the fans.

This time, the first feature mentioned is the usual slow-motion challenges in the Call of Duty series. These challenges feature the quick time event shooting style. For example, you go into a room, you will have some seconds to target several points as fast as possible so that your character can perform the actions; otherwise, you will be killed by your enemies. But that slow-motion mode will not be in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will no longer have slow motion shooting

“There’s no slow-mo anywhere in the campaign at all,” says Jacob Minkoff, single-player design director at Infinity Ward. “We looked into that type of mechanic early on in the process. We [realize] that it’s really iconic to the series but it, to us, felt really over done, that the series had been doing it for too long and there was nothing new — nothing exciting for the player — that we could bring to them through a sequence like that.”

But this reboot game will not throw away all the iconic features of the Call of Duty series. This title will keep the close quarters gun battles, which have been a tradition of this game series. Moreover. Infinity Ward looks to upgrade this tradition of Call of Duty series.

Infinity Ward hosted a screening that happened really secretly for the press. This screening showed gameplay in the storyline of the campaign in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 that has been recorded before the screening. This gameplay record lies somewhere in the early part of the game, and it is named Piccadilly Circus. In the screening, there was an assault into a four-floor apartment inside metropolitan London by a team of British soldiers. This raid happened in nearly complete darkness, and the environment makes players feel being squeezed because it is really narrow and claustrophobic.

Infinity Ward explains the reasons for this narrow and claustrophobic in-game environment are that this game developer wants more realistic gunfights in its next title. Normally, game developers will make the in-game environment really big so that enemy AI can navigate themselves more easily. But a bigger environment for the AI also means bigger environment for the players, thus making the game much less realistic.

Not only making the in-game environment really limited, but Infinity Ward also confirms that the enemy AI will tend to shield themselves in where they start with furniture and even bodies of other AI. With all the limited in-game environment, players must be really careful with their moments in the game. The stairways in the game can easily fall down if you make any sudden moves. All of these have an incredible impact on the gameplay.

The wild gunfights no longer exist. You cannot wildly run around the map and pointlessly shooting all over the places anymore. Now you need to carefully locate yourself to get into the new rooms safely. If you got discovered by the enemy AI, you will need to shoot fast, precisely and silently if you want to get out of the situation alive.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare will change a lot with small, airless in-game environment.

Of course, Infinity Ward does add some supports for players when playing in these kinds of in-game environment. This game developer puts a new “mounting system” into its new title, and this system will allow you to hold up your weapons against thick objects like door frames or walls in the game if you are staying in the range with a qualified object. This system does not have much visual result in combat, but it will affect the recoil of your weapon a lot.

“When you’re standing out in the open, your gun has much more kick,” Minkoff says. “It’s much more unstable. But when you rest it on a surface, now it’s much more stable. [...] There are quite a few games where you can rest it on a horizontal surface. But we’ve implemented resting against vertical surfaces as well.”

You will also be fully controlling how to open doors Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019, which means you can kick the doors really hard for a surprise attack, or you can gently open the door to grab a look inside. With a lot of cool features like this, the fans of this game series will look to make more pre-orders for this title, which will officially be released on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One on October 25th this year.
