Pocket Cowboys is the newest strategy game that tries to challenge the throne of Clash Royale. Unlike most games in this genre so far, this title actually brings some new ideas of its own.

In fact, it is not really that much similar to Clash Royale. There are no towers, combat is turn-based instead of real-time, and you won’t have a deck of cards.

In Pocket Cowboy, you will select 3 characters to send into battle against another trio controlled by other real players. The interesting thing is, both contestants will plan their respective moves at the exact same time. Afterward, all you have to do is sit back and watch how things play out. Maybe you successfully eliminate an enemy, or maybe they read your move beforehand and have set up to put you at a disadvantage.

The game is incredibly fast-paced. Each turn only lasts 15 seconds, so you won’t have much time to contemplate too much. As a result, you must think on your feet to come up with the best course of action.

That said, actually doing it is easier than it might sound, considering that there aren’t too many moves that you can carry out. Basically, everything revolves around moving, reloading, or firing in a direction, and that’s about it.

However, Pocket Cowboys has many characters, each with a unique set of abilities. For example, marauders are capable of blasting all adjacent tiles using a shotgun, bandits can shoot multiple times before they have to reload, while snipers are able to shoot enemies from an incredibly long distance.  Learning their abilities will be a huge part of the strategy.

The goal of each match is to get as many kills as you can. If you get three, you win. Winning will earn you gold and a chest, which grants new heroes and upgrades.

The game also incorporates some battle royale elements into the mix as well. As the match drags on, a sandstorm will start to cover parts of the map, greatly reducing the room in which both players can maneuver. If a character is caught in the storm, they are out.

There are multiple classes with unique abilities

That does not necessarily mean it’s game over for you, though. When one of your characters dies, you can summon another to replace him. You only lose when all three members of your roster are eliminated.

All in all, Pocket Cowboys brings an enjoyable breath of fresh air to the mobile strategy genre. With its fast-paced nature, every match feels really tense, and each character has enough uniqueness to make him stand out from the rest. The game is available on Google Play right now.
