Minecraft’s world is massive, with tons of biomes that shape how you play and explore. Some, though, feel a bit left behind compared to the shiny new ones Mojang’s been rolling out. Here are five biomes that could use a bit of love with fresh features to make them more fun and worth sticking around in.
Desert
Why it needs a boost: Deserts look cool with all the sand and cacti, plus those pyramid-like temples, but they get old fast. Once you’ve raided a temple, there’s not much reason to hang out.
What could help:
- Throw in some desert critters like snakes or scorpions to keep things spicy.
- Add secret oases with special plants or crops that love the heat.
- Toss in new spots to explore, like nomad camps or buried ruins with loot or trading.
Ice Spikes
Why it needs a boost: The huge ice towers are awesome to look at, but the biome’s pretty empty otherwise. You grab some packed ice and move on.
What could help:
- Add some icy creatures, like something that slides around or creepy frost ghosts.
- Stick in ice caves with puzzles or traps hiding cool loot, maybe frost-themed gear.
- Make the night sky pop with aurora lights and rare materials you can collect.
Mushroom Fields
Why it needs a boost: This super-rare biome is chill since no hostile mobs spawn, but it’s just mooshrooms and big mushrooms. Not much to do.
What could help:
- Add new mushrooms for crafting potions or glowing stuff.
- Bring in a mushroom-based critter that trades weird spores.
- Create underground tunnels or glowing caves to make exploring more exciting.
Swamp
Why it needs a boost: Swamps have witch huts and slimes, but the muddy mess and lack of stuff to find make it a place you avoid unless you have to.
What could help:
- Add swamp villages on stilts with villagers who trade unique items.
- Toss in new plants or fishable critters, like herbs or swamp creatures.
- Let mud do more, like turning it into bricks or cool building blocks.
Badlands
Why it needs a boost: The colorful terracotta and extra gold are nice, but outside of mineshafts, it’s pretty empty and doesn’t pull you back.
- Add a special mineral or rock you can only find here for crafting.
- Throw in dust storms to mix things up and add some challenge.
- Build Western-style spots like ghost towns or bandit hideouts with enemies or treasure.
