As you might already know, Valve is releasing a new Half-Life game called Half-Life: Alyx. This game will be a VR game, set in the event between Half-Life and Half-Life 2. So of course, in order to fully enjoy this game, players need to at least played Half-Life and Half-Life 2 first to understand the storyline and context of the game.
And so, along with the upcoming release of this title, Valve has made their two iconic Half-Life games free to play for two months so everyone can get a chance to experience this series. They think this is the best way for everyone to enjoy Half-Life: Alyx. Note that you will still have to buy them if you want to own them. These games will no longer be in your Steam's library after two months.
In Half-Life: Alyx, players will be controlling Gordon Freeman's friend Alyx Vance. She is the only hope of mankind to defeat Combine, an evil alien race that is threatening the earth after the Black Mesa incident.
The game was built for solely the VR platform. There will be a lot of environment interactions, explorations, and puzzles that you will be able to experience in the Half-Life universe.
Half-Life: Alyx will be available for PC through Steam on March 20, 2020, with a price of $53.99. That is pretty expensive I would say. But before you decide if it will be worth it or not, try Half-Life and Half-Life 2 first while they are free.
