A bunch of Battlefield 6 supporters are pushing for the new shooter to bring back the Operations mode from Battlefield 1. Right now, it doesn't look very likely, but EA has mentioned before that there's still plenty about Battlefield 6 they haven't revealed yet.
Battlefield 6 is right in the thick of its first open beta weekend, set to wrap up on August 11 at 1am PT / 4am ET / 10am CET. The test kicked off on August 7, a couple of days after early access began for EA Play Pro members, Battlefield Labs participants, and those who grabbed a key through Twitch Drops. With almost a full week to play, tons of fans have jumped in to test the Battlefield 6 beta extensively, leading to lots of chatter online about the upcoming Battlefield 6 release date on October 10.
Battlefield 6 Players Want B1's Operations Mode Back
This push has shown up lately on the r/Battlefield subreddit, where some active Battlefield 6 players have teamed up to demand the inclusion of Operations mode from Battlefield 1. "Not bringing back Operations is a huge missed opportunity," said Reddit user DaRealAyman, which got hundreds of supportive comments. The post racked up thousands of upvotes and got pinned to the subreddit's main page early on August 10 ET.
What Is Battlefield 1's Operations Mode?
Operations is a multiplayer game mode introduced in Battlefield 1, originally released in October 2016. It was designed to simulate the progression of a real war campaign, spanning multiple maps constituting a unified front. In Operations, attacking teams attempted to push the frontline across two or three linked maps, each divided into smaller objective sectors. Meanwhile, defending teams attempted to slow their advance by fighting them off and depleting their reinforcement tickets in the process. A single battalion typically had between 250 and 350 tickets.
Each objective sector in Operations required attackers to capture all control points before proceeding. In the event of a successful attack, the action would move to the next sector, and eventually the next map. Operations thus combined elements of some previous Battlefield modes, particularly Conquest and Rush, though it emphasized large-scale warfare and gradual progression. In June 2018, DICE introduced a condensed take on this mode called Shock Operations, featuring a single map with smaller teams and fewer reinforcement tickets, thus delivering faster-paced matches.
The odds of Battlefield 6 adding new modes based on fan feedback at this late stage seem low, especially with the DICE Battlefield team's focus on polishing the game. But EA has hinted that not everything about the first-person shooter has been shown yet, so there's a chance Operations mode Battlefield fans love could still be in the works for the October 10 launch.
