When you first jump into Dune: Awakening, you’ll need to gather some basic stuff to kickstart your gear and base-building. We’re talking Granite, Plant Fiber, and Salvaged Metal, plus some Fuel Cells to juice up anything electronic in the game.

Granite and Plant Fiber? No sweat—they’re everywhere, like sand on Arrakis. But Salvaged Metal and Fuel Cells? Those take a bit more effort to track down. Here’s the lowdown on snagging both for your early game needs in Dune: Awakening.

Where to Find Salvaged Metal in Dune: Awakening

Salvaged Metal is the easier of the two to come by, but one of your first missions asks for 250 of it, which is no small task.

You can spot Salvaged Metal as single pieces scattered around the starting area. They look like little metal boxes, usually chilling near rocks or cliffs. Picking up a few here and there helps, but it won’t get you close to 250.

Your best bet for racking up Salvaged Metal is hitting up scavenger camps in the starting zone. These camps, tucked in moisture-sealed caves or under rocky overhangs, are loaded with the stuff. Problem is, they’re guarded by scavengers you’ll need to take out first.

At these camps, you’ll find single pieces of Salvaged Metal on the ground, but the real haul comes from cutting open big metal chunks with your Cutteray—the same tool you use for Granite Stone or Copper Ore. Scan for large metal pieces with a yellow icon, slice at the blue mark, and you’ll score about 40-60 pieces per chunk.

You can also find these big metal pieces out in the open near smaller ones, but camps are where they’re at. Check chests in the camps too—they sometimes have Salvaged Metal, though they’re more likely to hold rarer items or even water, which is super valuable in Dune: Awakening.

To locate a scavenger camp, pop open your map, zoom in, and check the icons. You can scout camps yourself later by crafting a Survey Probe, but that’s only after you’ve made Copper Ingots at a Fabricator in your base, post-trial mission.

Where to Find Fuel Cells in Dune: Awakening

Fuel Cells are trickier. They’re often in the same spots as Salvaged Metal but in way smaller amounts. They look like small rectangular cartridges, sometimes lying next to Salvaged Metal pieces.

Instead of scrounging on the ground, focus on scavenger camps with chests. Chests have a solid shot at holding Fuel Cells, along with other rare items, making them a reliable way to stock up.

Here’s a pro tip: all chests, enemies, and resources in the world and at camps respawn after one in-game day. So, if you find a good loop of scavenger camps, you can hit them up every couple of hours and load up on everything you need.

If you’re desperate, you can also swing by trader camps, like the Griffin Research Tradepost, and buy Fuel Cells for 50 Solari each. It’s not the cheapest way to go, but it works if you’re in a bind.
