Pearl Abyss’s long-awaited creature-collecting open-world game DokeV is now officially targeting a launch in the second half of 2028. The Pokémon-like title, which blends exploration, creature collection, and adventure in a vibrant modern-inspired world, has been in development for years and remains more than two years away from players.

Nearly a Decade in the Making

The game was first revealed in 2019 under the working title Project V before receiving its official name and a reveal trailer later that year. A more substantial gameplay trailer followed at Gamescom in 2021. Nearly a decade after its initial announcement, the project is finally receiving a clearer timeline.

Current Development Progress

According to Pearl Abyss’s recent earnings and strategy updates, development is progressing smoothly. The studio has leveraged assets, tools, and production experience gained from previous projects, including Crimson Desert. Basic systems are now in place. The team has moved beyond foundational setup and is currently focused on expanding content creation while validating and testing the core gameplay loop.

Plans for 2027 Previews and Beyond

Pearl Abyss plans to begin showing more of the game publicly in the second half of 2027. This will include sequential information reveals and hands-on playable demos as part of a phased marketing approach. The company has indicated it wants to avoid releasing material too early, learning from past experience that premature hype can create gaps between expectations and the final product.

For now, fans will need to remain patient. DokeV is still more than two years from its planned second-half 2028 window. When it does arrive, the game aims to deliver an open-world experience centered on forming bonds with Dokebi, creatures powered by people’s dreams, in a colorful world that mixes everyday settings with fantastical elements.

The extended development period reflects Pearl Abyss’s focus on refining systems and content after concentrating resources on Crimson Desert. With a more established production pipeline in place, the studio appears more confident in hitting its new target.
