The original free-to-play RPG Granblue Fantasy, developed by Cygames, officially launched on Steam worldwide on March 10, 2026. First released in Japan in 2014 as a browser and mobile game, this marks the first time the game is available via a dedicated PC client for global players.

However, the launch has faced significant backlash from players, resulting in a "Mostly Negative" rating on Steam with only 31% positive reviews out of over 400. Common complaints include the inability to link existing accounts, forcing long-time players to start from scratch, as well as bugs and optimization issues on PC.

In terms of gameplay, Granblue Fantasy offers a strategic turn-based battle system. Players build parties consisting of up to four characters along with powerful summons. Combat revolves around a six-element system - Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, and Dark - encouraging careful team composition to exploit elemental advantages. One of the game's standout features is the weapon grid system, which allows players to combine dozens of weapons to maximize stats and create devastating damage setups. Battles feature real-time elements such as charge attacks and skill timing, while the game provides hundreds of hours of story content, seasonal events, and high-difficulty co-op raids.

While concurrent player numbers are not yet reported, the launch trailer has garnered attention, highlighting the game's epic story and artwork. Only time will tell if patches can turn the tide for this classic JRPG on Steam.
