Grand Theft Auto VI now has final age ratings, and the small print says more than the badges. In the United States it is ESRB Mature 17+. In Europe and the UK it is PEGI 18. Australia and New Zealand list it as R18. The game is set for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What the boards listed

The ESRB label, also on Rockstar's site and the US console stores, carries seven descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. In-game purchases are flagged too. PEGI marks violence, sex, drugs, and in-game purchases. Australia names Drug Use, High Impact Violence, and Sex Scenes. New Zealand adds Nudity, Offensive Language, and Graphic Violence.

Gore and open-world violence

A PEGI content summary, posted on October 2 and later taken down, described the violence in more detail. Players can harm civilians, criminals, and police. The board called it bloody and highly realistic. Some weapons cause greater damage, including detailed decapitation and dismemberment. Domestic animals can also be harmed, but without the same injury detail used on human characters.

Sex scenes and club interactions

That summary is why sex is getting more attention than in past GTA ratings. It lists nudity, scenes of intercourse, and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes. Australia and New Zealand go further than the ESRB's broader "Strong Sexual Content" line and name sex scenes outright. Nightclubs are called out too. Players can pay for private dances, and the game lets them move their hands onto the dancers' breasts and buttocks.

Snorting from the inventory

Drug use is the clearest mechanical change. PEGI said it is frequent and prominent. Jason and Lucia can use illegal drugs with other characters and directly from inventory. Most notably, cocaine can be carried and snorted from the player's hand at any time. GTA 5 and GTA Online kept optional use, such as a bong, mostly inside owned apartments. A pocket item you can use in the open world is new for the series.

Rockstar has not walked through these systems itself. The ratings are still the clearest public note on sex, gore, and drug use ahead of launch. PEGI removing the longer write-up does not change the 18 badge, or the Mature label already on the stores.
