Murong Yuan pops up as a campaign boss in the Kaifeng section of Where Winds Meet. It's one of those optional side quests you can grab while poking around Jadewood Court, the spot south of Kaifeng City. The whole thing drags on a bit, but finishing it opens up the main campaign battle.
You first tangle with Murong Yuan in the Jinming Pool campaign quest. Once that's done, she becomes a boss you can refight anytime. Like the rest, she splits into two phases and ranks among the game's hardest fights.

Gear setups
Your Martial Arts setup won't make or break it – any you've got equipped will do the job. Grab the Panacea Fan though; its healing is a lifesaver. On the Mystic Arts side, slot in Meridian Touch – you'll need it to shut down one of her key moves.
Companions aren't for everyone, but they pull a ton of weight, especially later on. Pick a sturdy tank like Yi Dao to back you up.
Phase 1

Here's a breakdown of Murong Yuan's attacks and how to handle them:
Keep your eyes peeled for two golden sword glows. Meridian Touch handles one; dodge the other. Watch for the game's prompt to trigger the ability. When her sword flashes red, back off quick and dodge the opener – no parry or block works there. A follow-up slash comes right after, and that's your parry window. If you're running a Companion, let them draw aggro, but keep them kicking for phase 2.
Phase 2
The mechanical bird lobs projectiles your way – just deflect them back. Once its Qi bar hits zero, skip the finisher and leave it stunned. Stick to dropping Murong Yuan; ignore the bird. She'll whistle it in and take off often, so brace for her dive. Clear out from her landing spot fast, or you'll eat burn damage.
Taking down the Murong Yuan boss in Where Winds Meet scores you rewards, though it'll chew through your stamina.
