Hoglins are some of the toughest critters you’ll run into in Minecraft’s Nether. They hang out mostly in the Crimson Forest and can be a real pain with their aggressive vibes and heavy-hitting attacks. But they’re also super useful, dropping porkchops and leather for players who know how to handle them. Whether you’re looking to fight, breed, or farm these guys, getting the lowdown on hoglins is a must for surviving the Nether. This guide breaks down everything about their spawning, behavior, and drops, so you can deal with these crimson beasts like a pro in Minecraft’s latest updates.
1. Where do Hoglins Spawn
Hoglins show up mainly in the Crimson Forest biome in the Nether. You’ll also spot them in Bastion Remnant structures, but not in the Basalt Deltas.
Conditions
They pop up in groups of 3-4 on Crimson Nylium or in darker spots of the Crimson Forest. They don’t spawn in the Warped Forest unless you drag them there yourself.
In Peaceful difficulty, they’ll appear but vanish right away. You might find them in Nether Wastes or Soul Sand Valleys inside Bastion Remnants.
Feed them Crimson Fungus, and you’ll get baby hoglins. Each breeding session speeds up a baby hoglin’s growth by 10%.
2. Behavior
Hoglins come at you hard unless you’ve got at least one piece of gold armor on, which keeps them chill. They’ll sometimes go after piglins or piglin brutes, especially if someone starts a fight or a piglin’s nearby during a hunt.
They hit with a knockback attack that can launch you into the air, which is bad news near lava or cliffs. They stick together in groups and get mad if you hit one of their buddies. Baby hoglins are harmless but will run from you.
They steer clear of Warped Fungus, Nether Portals, and Respawn Anchors. Place these nearby, and they’ll bolt.
Take a hoglin to the Overworld or The End, and it’ll turn into a Zoglin after 15 seconds (300 ticks). Zoglins are always out for blood and won’t change back.
3. Drops
When killed by a player or tamed wolf, adult hoglins drop 2-4 Raw Porkchop (or Cooked Porkchop if killed while burning) and 0-2 Leather, with drop rates increased by the Looting enchantment (up to 5 porkchops and 3 leather with Looting III). They also give 5 EXP. Baby hoglins don’t drop items or XP. Breeding doesn’t yield items but produces baby hoglins that can grow up for farming.
4. Tips for Players
Combat
Throw on at least one piece of gold armor to avoid a fight in the Nether. Use a shield to block their knockback hits.
Pick open areas to fight so you don’t get tossed into lava or off a cliff.
Farming
Set up a hoglin farm in the Crimson Forest by luring them with Crimson Fungus or using trapdoors and pistons.
Place Warped Fungus to keep them out of certain spots. You can leash hoglins and move them through Nether portals, but watch out for them turning into zoglins in the Overworld.
