Hideo Kojima returns to Night City as Hideyoshi Oshima in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2. The Metal Gear and Death Stranding director voices the character he originated in Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red confirmed the cameo ahead of the Netflix premiere.

In Cyberpunk 2077, Oshima appears as a Japanese braindance producer during the Heist mission at Konpeki Plaza. He discusses creating more emotionally resonant braindances instead of purely sensational content. Players can spot the Kojima-modeled character near the hotel bar. A Death Stranding Bridge Baby Pod Easter egg also appears elsewhere in the game.

Season 2 launches on Netflix on October 20, 2026, with all 10 episodes available at once. Studio Trigger returns to animate the standalone story, directed by Kai Ikarashi. The new crew includes:

  • Weak Kingsley (voiced by Clancy Brown in English), a washed-up veteran edgerunner living without chrome
  • D, a Snake Nation netrunner seeking revenge for his clan
  • Roman Carax, a young cinephile documenting real stories in a braindance-dominated city
  • Talia Yang, a corpo-raised figure drawn to chrome and violence

Kojima posted about the role himself, stating he makes a cameo as the character from the game. The series continues the Night City setting with a fresh cast focused on redemption and revenge, separate from David Martinez's story. A Cyberpunk 2077 sequel remains in development, and a live-action movie is also planned.

Fans of the original Edgerunners and the 2077 game can catch Oshima's return starting today. The cameo links the anime directly to the RPG's world.
