Last Sunday, League of Legends professional team Cloud 9 from North America drove the world crazy with their dominating 3-0 victory against Afreeca Freecs, the last hope of Korea, in the Quarterfinals of the League of Legends World Championship 2018. This makes them the first North American team to advance to Semifinals at Worlds since season 1. They could not have done it, though, without the contribution of the Blue Sentinel.

Following their victory, Cloud 9 announced on their Twitter that they had officially recruited Blue Sentinel into their roster.

The Blue Sentinel, or “Blue Buff”, is one of the most successful individuals in League of Legends history. It has appeared in every single League game ever, competitive or otherwise. Cloud 9 say they accepted Blue Buff to their roster after a short trial, since it proved itself to be capable of performing on the big stage. They also add that Blue Buff is a very helpful teammate, always providing their mid laner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen with the resources he needs – namely mana – to win the lane. Furthermore, during the second game of C9’s series against Afreeca Freecs, it contributed to a massive highlight play that, according to C9’s tweet, turned the tide of the match.

The highlight occurred around the 20-minute mark of this game. Jensen on Ahri was struggling quite a bit against Afreeca’s mid laner Lee “Kuro” Seo-haeng. However, C9’s jungler Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen had been having a stellar performance on Graves, giving C9 a slight gold advantage. At 20 minutes, 3 members of C9 caught Afreeca’s jungler Lee “Mowgli” Jae-ha on Xin Zhao in his own jungle, getting him very low. Mowgli used Audacious Charge onto the Blue Buff to get over the wall, while also smiting it to regain some health. Svenskeren shot Graves’ ultimate Collateral Damage after Mowgli, but that did not do enough damage to finish him off. Right as it seemed that Mowgli would escape with a sliver of health, Blue Buff stepped up and delivered the final blow, giving the kill to Svenskeren.

This impressive feat earned Blue Buff a spot in the C9 League of Legends roster. C9 CEO Jack Etienne says he is excited to have the opportunity to work with such a talented figure. He “can’t wait to see it in action again”.

Regarding this, C9 Blue “Blue Buff” Sentinel has nothing to say but “Stomp Stomp Slam Stomp Slam Stomp Stomp Slam Slam Slam.”
