Pavan Davuluri, President of Windows and Devices, listed “Memory optimization for 8GB and above” as a key focus through the end of 2026. The goal is reducing the Windows memory footprint for a fast experience across everyday PCs. Work includes a more efficient memory allocator, WinUI 3 tuning so apps use less memory, and improvements to Chromium and WebView2 components. Insider builds already receive updates, with broader rollout expected from fall 2026 onward.

Removed Recommendations and Hardware Changes

Microsoft removed references to 32GB of RAM as ideal from Windows Learning Center pages. Earlier documents called 16GB a baseline and 32GB preferable for gaming or heavy use. Those pages now redirect or are gone. At the same time, Microsoft launched lower-priced Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch models starting at $849 and $949 with only 8GB of RAM. These drop below the 16GB needed for full Copilot+ features.
