A recent leak has sparked fresh excitement among Assassin's Creed fans. Reports claim Ubisoft is developing an unannounced game codenamed Mars, set in Ancient Rome. This potential setting has many wondering if it could finally pick up the threads left open at the end of Assassin's Creed Origins.
French content creator J0nathan shared the details in a YouTube video. He stated that two sources with access to Ubisoft's internal systems confirmed the project. Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson later noted that his outlet had also heard the codenames independently, though the information could not be verified to the outlet's usual standards. Ubisoft has not commented on the claims.
What We Know About Codename Mars
The only concrete detail attached to Mars so far is its Ancient Rome setting. The codename itself references the Roman god of war. No platform, developer studio, or release window has been shared. The project remains completely unannounced by Ubisoft.
Assassin's Creed has visited Rome before in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, but that game took place during the Renaissance. An ancient version of the city would mark a clear shift in time period and open new storytelling possibilities.
The Connection to Assassin's Creed Origins
Assassin's Creed Origins concluded with Aya sailing to Rome. There she established a Hidden Ones bureau in the Pantheon district and adopted the name Amunet. This ending left a clear narrative thread dangling. A game set in the Roman world could continue that story directly and potentially bring Aya back as a playable character or key figure.
J0nathan floated two possibilities. One is a direct continuation of the Origins narrative featuring Aya as Amunet. The other is a standalone story set later during the imperial period. Either approach would address long-standing fan interest in returning to the characters and world introduced in Origins.
A Second Project Also Mentioned
Alongside Mars, the same reports mention a mobile title codenamed Pocket. This project is said to be set in Jerusalem and feature gameplay similar to the Mastery Challenges from Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Its visual style has been compared to recent Prince of Persia games. Like Mars, Pocket has not been acknowledged by Ubisoft.
Context From Recent Ubisoft Updates
In late October 2026, Ubisoft released a franchise update. The company confirmed that teams are working on unannounced Assassin's Creed projects featuring new settings and stories. At the same time, Ubisoft stated that no additional remakes are currently in active development following Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Codename Hexe, the previously announced darker narrative-driven entry, continues to make progress, with the next major update expected in 2027. The multiplayer project known as Invictus has also received player feedback and is evolving based on that input.
What This Means for Fans
Nothing about Mars or Pocket has been officially confirmed. Leaks in the Assassin's Creed series have a long history of accuracy, but they remain speculative until Ubisoft speaks. Still, the idea of an Ancient Rome game that could close the Origins chapter has generated significant discussion.
For now, fans will have to wait for official news. The next firm checkpoint appears to be 2027, when Ubisoft has promised further updates on Hexe and the broader franchise as it approaches its 20th anniversary.
