In September, we've announced you about The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance - a quirky RPG game related to the Netflix series with the same name that aired in August. The game (and the series) will put us into the adventure in the land of Thra - revealed after the first original movie - The Dark Crystal in 1982.
However, on that date, we only knew several things about its gameplay and its vague release windows of 2020. Considering how beautiful and fascinating its gameplay and story are, people are very excited for more information on the game. And finally, we've got it - The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will come out for us in February 2020!
Along with this announcement, the developer Bonus XP and the publisher En Masse Entertainment also gave us a brand new trailer featuring its vibrant visuals and unique turn-based campaigns. You can have a look at it below:
The story of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
The video game adaptation of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance follows almost exactly what happens in its Netflix series. To be more specific, you'll embark on your adventure in the titular fantasy world of Thra as the leader of Gelfing - the newborn resistance to turn over the reign of their dictatorial rulers - the Skeksis.
The Geflings' lives are being consumed by their overlords, and their world is on the verge of destruction. Following the three founding members - Rian, Brea, and Deet, you'll come across many other people from the Gelfling tribes and drive the rebellion to success struggling in the oppression of the overlords.
Standing united is the only way to increase your chances of winning in various battles against the Skeksis, and you'll join hands with them to protect the precious lives of your races!
Gameplay features
Even though its Netflix series is very worth watching with eye-popping CGI effects and deep storylines, the video game of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is even more lively, as you can immerse in the Geflings' adventure on your own. Basically, it's a turn-based action RPG game consists of a beautiful blend of vibrant visuals, plenty of RPG elements and strategical turn-based battles.
First thing first, let's talk about the RPG features. Taking control of the three first Geflings: Rian, Brea, and Deet, you'll start your journey in the land of Thra to gain more power to have a small chance against the nefarious rulers - the Skeksis. At first, you're limited not only in the number of soldiers but also the numbers of abilities and equipment in battles.
However, along the way, you'll meet other Geflings in certain situations, and by helping them, you will be able to recruit them to your crew for tougher fights in the future. As your crew starts to grow, you can assign them with certain jobs, upgrade their abilities and equip them with gears. The developer revealed that there will be 14 playable characters in the game, including both the ones in the original movies and the new faces as well.
The battles in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is heavily strategy-based, in which you'll give specific orders to every member of your army. How to approach certain fights, where to deploy your formations and who to do what jobs - that depends totally on you. Hence, the game will be quite hard for the newcomers, but very attracting at the same time. Through over 50 distinctive battle campaigns, you'll fall in love with the tactical elements of the game.
Release date and supported platforms
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will launch on February 2, 2020. It's quite late after the Netflix series aired, but considering how acclaimed it has been, the game will have no problem catching up its success.
At launch, the game will support PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
