What is Where Winds Meet?

Where Winds Meet is an open-world action RPG happening in 10th-century China during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era. You take on the role of a young swordsman or swordswoman who heads out from home after a tough personal loss and steps into a broken world full of fights, schemes, and myths.

The devs say you can go through it as a story-focused solo journey that lasts more than 100 hours, team up with up to four players, or dive into an MMO-style online space with thousands of others.

What content does Where Winds Meet offer?

Where Winds Meet combines standard RPG stuff with MMO systems and a story-led setup. The key parts include:

  • Open world with over 20 regions, changing weather, and a complete day-night cycle
  • Fully voiced main story with tons of side missions
  • Martial-arts fighting using swords, spears, dual blades, fans, umbrellas, and more
  • Wuxia powers like slowing time, moving things with your mind, and attacks based on acupuncture
  • Jobs such as doctor, architect, musician, or orator
  • Housing setup where you can build your own home
  • NPCs you can interact with that have AI for conversations
  • Character creator with lots of customization

The fighting system really shines with its real martial-arts moves. They used motion capture from actual stunt people. Even odd weapons like the umbrella work as both a shield and a weapon.

How does co-op work?

In Where Winds Meet, you can join forces with up to three others in the story mode. As a group, you can:

  • Finish main and side quests
  • Take down bosses in the open world
  • Join in mini-games and hangout activities
  • Trade resources and figure out puzzles

The team-up mode flows smoothly and feels more like a regular action RPG than a full MMORPG. The world stays private, so you only run into other players if you want to.

What MMO elements are included?

After a few hours in, you unlock the online mode, which has a bunch of multiplayer stuff like:

  • PvE raids, dungeons, and world bosses
  • PvP arenas, guild battles, and a battle-royale setup called “Perception Forest”
  • Guilds and alliances with special rewards
  • Adventure areas with group meditation, healing missions, and puzzles tied to the lore
  • Story challenges with rankings
  • Weekly events, updates per season, and fresh content every three months

Main and side quests stick to solo or team-up play, while the online part is about hanging out and extra challenges you can pick.

What weapons are available?

At launch, there are seven main weapon types:

  • Sword (Jian)
  • Spear
  • Dual Blades
  • Glaive
  • Mo Blade (Longsword)
  • Fan & Umbrella
  • Rope Dart with Throwing Blade

Each one has its own flow, combo options, and works with various combat approaches.

Is there a progression system?

Yeah, Where Winds Meet has a solid progression setup that covers:

  • Leveling up with new skills to unlock
  • Advancing in professions and building reputation
  • Building relationships with NPCs via choices in talks
  • Opening up new areas, groups, and martial-arts moves
