The number of the new coronavirus disease, COVID-19, has surpassed 1 million, which is 10 times more than the number of cases just 30 days ago. The cases have exploded all over North America and Europe, and are spreading in South Asia and Africa.

Death toll of COVID-19 has also reached close to 60,000 according to information provided by Johns Hopkins University. As of this moment, there are a total of about 1,095,917 cases and 58,787 deaths, but also 225,000 people have recovered.

Since its humble beginnings back in December 2019, after the city of Wuhan, China started reporting of a new coronavirus disease spreading around. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confirmed how incredibly fast the disease has spread: “Over the past five weeks, we have witnessed a near exponential growth in the number of new cases, reaching almost every country, territory and area,” said the Director General at a news briefing in Geneva, Switzerland.

Officially, the confirmed number of cases in the US has far exceeded that of China, where the disease was first discovered. But US intelligence agencies said China is underreporting the number of cases that the country actually has.

Regardless, the current cases in the US now account for over one fifths of global infections. In New York State alone, there are over 100,000 cases, accounting for almost of half of all cases in the US. Estimates that between 100,000 to 240,000 people will die in the US are considered to be a "good job" by President Trump.
