Appsflyers has recently released a report called State of App Marketing In India 2019, which looks into the specific situation of app downloads in India. Last year, the top spot belongs to Chinese apps, which ruled the whole market with their worldwide-famous hits like TikTok or Helo. However, the wind has blown on the opposite way now.

For your information, Appsflyers has conducted the research based on 6.5 billion installs in India within the period of April 2019 to September 2019. From that, they have selected the top 200 most installed apps, and categorized it into certain parts like developer's origin, genres and many more. And the result marks a huge rise from India-made apps to replace the ruling supreme of the Chinese ones.

To be more specific, Chinese mobile applications have seen a steep decrease with 43% of the top 200 apps with the most installs in 2018 down to only 38% in 2019. Taking this opportunity, Indian apps have made their strong overturn, as it has risen from only 38% to 41%. The other segments like American apps or Russian apps stay nearly the same as last year, so it's quite safe to say that Indian users are switching from Chinese applications to the Indian counterparts!

Overall, the Indian markets of over 450 million smartphone users only see the competition between Indian apps and apps from Chinese developers. Together, these two segments still enjoy their domination in the industry, with accounts for more than three-quarters of the top 100 most installed apps.

But don't celebrate too soon!

Even though it's great to see more Indian users are leaning onto the Indian apps, this rise still has some of its dark sides. According to Appsflyer, India is the country with the most mobile app install fraud. Among all genres, finance is the ones that received the most fraud install reports, followed by shopping and travel.

In total, in Q2 and Q3 of 2019, India has experienced from 20% to 37% of non-organic installs reported as fraudulent install, higher than the average number of the world. The reasons behind this situation are the bad vulnerability of Android and other non-trustworthy sources. This is definitely not a good sign, as we're longing for sustainable development, but not for the fast but fragile one.
