Hey Free Fire players! The OB51 update is rolling out, and it's the largest patch yet. It's packed with shifts mainly for Battle Royale (BR) and esports folks. In this post, we'll break down all the OB51 details in easy terms and check out the major updates coming.

1. Changes in Knockdown System
There's a big tweak to the knockdown setup. Right now, when you're downed, your HP (Health Points) drains completely in 35 seconds. Post-OB51, that drops to 14 seconds. So, no more crawling around forever; your health goes down quicker.
But in close-quarters combat, like getting hit by an MP4, it stays at 35 seconds. Plus, crawling speed is up by 35%, letting you scoot faster when down. For weapons like Rafael, the HP drain rate doesn't change.
2. Weapon Changes
Thompson gun gets a 2x scope and a new version
The standout feature here is that the Thompson now supports a 2x scope. Before, SMGs like BZ and P90 had this, but now Thompson joins them. On top of that, a new variant called Thompson X is being added.
Thompson upgrades:
- Damage: Increased by 3%
- Armor penetration: Increased by 5%
- Range: Increased by 10%
- Accuracy: Increased by 5%
- 2x scope support added
Thompson X special features:
- Damage: Increased by 3%
- Rate of fire: Increased by 8%
- Armor penetration: Increased by 10%
- Range: Increased by 15%
- Reload speed: Increased by 15%
Even without skins, Thompson X will be powerful, potentially shaking up the SMG meta. Players might switch to Thompson or Thompson X instead of MP34, BZ, or P90. Also, Thompson's value in CS Rank has gone up.
New Weapons
Winchester 2: Can be purchased for 300 FF coins
M62 D Chip: Can also be purchased for 300 FF coins from the vending machine
3. Changes in Vending Machines and Items
Vending machine update:
- Upgrade Chips: Now you can buy upgrade chips only two times
- Free attachments removed: Now vending machines will no longer provide free attachments
- Arsenal price: Reduced from 1000 to 600 FF coins
- Level 3 Backpack: Reduced from 300 to 200 FF coins
- Level 3 Helmet: Can now only be purchased up to 5 times
High-tier items removed:
Level 4 vest and airdrop weapons are completely removed from the map
4. Changes in Revival System
Several key adjustments have been added:
- Landing weapons: Before, you'd drop in with G8 and P9 pistols. Now it's the M970 pistol and Bajan
- Helmet and Vest durability: They used to break entirely, but now they'll keep at least 1% durability
- Repair Kit and Inhaler: You'll get a combo with two uses instead of one
- Med Kits: You'll now start with 4 Med Kits and 2 Gloo Walls, up from 2 Med Kits
- Bonus: Med Kits will not take backpack space anymore
- Coin Pickup: Grabbing 200 FF coins from a machine also gives you 2 Med Kits
- Coins after revive: You'll recover 50% of your coins after revival
- Example: If you had 1000 coins and got taken out, you'd get 500 back on revive
These tweaks will make reviving smoother and more worthwhile in BR mode.
5. Arsenal Upgrade
There's a significant update to the Arsenal too.
Now you can upgrade the Arsenal from outside.
Upgrade costs:
- 400–500 FF coins
- or
- Some areas: 1500 FF coins
After upgrading, you'll get level 3 weapons, like replacing MP5 with level 3 guns.
But Level 3 M10 and M4A1 guns are being removed from the map.
6. Skill and Other Changes
Ignis and Kenta skills will now be seen in the game
BR Meta focus: This update specially targets BR meta
In total 30-40 gameplay changes have been made that will completely change BR experience
Conclusion
The Free Fire OB51 update is the biggest patch so far, introducing major shifts for Battle Royale and esports players. Features like Thompson with 2x scope, the Thompson X variant, revival tweaks, and getting 50% coins back after revive will amp up the excitement.
In particular, expect a shift in the SMG meta, and the heal meta will get a lot stronger.
