Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is a free-to-play digital card game from Cygames, hitting PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), iOS, and Android on June 17, 2025. It’s the follow-up to the original Shadowverse from 2016, bringing fresh mechanics, a beefed-up competitive scene, and a new social hub called Shadowverse Park. You’ll find it in English, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese (PC only).
Key Features and Gameplay
1. Core Gameplay
- The goal’s simple: knock your opponent’s Leader’s Defense Points to zero using decks with Followers, Spells, and Amulets.
- Play Points work like mana in Magic: The Gathering—you get more each turn to play cards.
- Build decks from eight classes (Forestcraft, Swordcraft, Runecraft, Dragoncraft, Abysscraft, Havencraft, Portalcraft, Neutral) plus Neutral cards. Abysscraft is a new class mixing Shadowcraft and Bloodcraft.
- You start with 4 cards (up from 3 in the original) and draw 1 on your first turn.
- Evolution System: Starting on the second player’s 4th turn, use Evolution Points (EP, 2 per player) to boost Followers’ attack/defense by +2 and sometimes unlock abilities.
2. New Mechanics
- Super Evolution: From the second player’s 6th turn, use Super Evolution Points (SEP, 2 per player) to super-charge Followers with +3 attack/defense, Rush, immunity to damage/destruction during your turn, and a “blow away” effect (extra damage after killing a Follower hits the enemy Leader).
- Bonus Play Points: The second player gets temporary extra Play Points twice (before turn 6 and after) to even out the first-player edge.
- New Keywords (from Shadowverse: Evolve):
- Intimidate: Enemy Followers can’t attack it.
- Aura: Can’t be targeted by enemy abilities.
- Barrier: Blocks damage once before breaking.
- AI Tips: Eudie, a new character, guides new players in practice matches with unlimited turn time to learn rules and strategies.
3. Shadowverse Park
A 3D hub where you make custom avatars, chat, use stickers, form guilds, and battle others. It replaces side activities like fishing with a focus on socializing and competing. Complete missions and quests in the Park to score card packs and cosmetics.
4. Story Mode
A new story with full voice acting follows seven characters, like:
- Dreizehn (Portalcraft): A girl from a machine-heavy world.
- Lovesign (Forestcraft): The Enchanter of Kingdoms.
- Marie Malisse (Swordcraft): A noblewoman from a floral land.
- Kaori Yuihara (Runecraft): A top-tier archmage.
Eudie helps with tutorials and navigation.
5. Card Acquisition and Liquefaction
You can only liquefy extra cards beyond the third copy, so vial farming is trickier. To help:
- Daily free card pack (doesn’t count toward Legendary guarantees).
- Missions give up to 10 card packs per new set.
- Every 10 purchased packs guarantees a Legendary card.
- Finish First Farer beginner missions for a prebuilt deck (one of 9, each with a Legendary).
Card Sets: New sets drop every 1–1.5 months until August 2025, then every two months. No extra cards added post-release.
6. Competitive Scene
- Shadowverse World Grand Prix 2025: Replaces the old World Championship with a 100 million JPY (~$700,000 USD) prize pool. Past tournament qualifiers carry over.
- Events like RAGE Shadowverse 2024 Spring/Summer feed into the Grand Prix.
- The original Shadowverse is now in maintenance mode, with no new cards as focus shifts to Worlds Beyond.
7. Cross-Media Integration
- Shadowverse: Evolve (Physical TCG):
- The first card set launches in Japan on July 11, 2025, with starter decks (Swordcraft, Dragoncraft) on June 27, 2025, featuring characters like Marie Malisse and Galan. They include codes for Worlds Beyond rewards (emblems, sleeves, card pack tickets). English versions will follow.
- Events: A pre-release event at Shadowverse Special Fes (March 23, 2025, Tokyo) let players test Dragoncraft, Abysscraft, and Portalcraft decks.
- Art Exhibition: Cygames Background Art Exhibition 2024–2025 (Japan, May 2–13, 2025) shows off Worlds Beyond art.
- Theme Song: “Tell Me About You” by Tatsuya Kitani.
