Minecraft looks like an easy game at first, but it's loaded with features to discover. You can stick to mining and building bases, or get into redstone to build wild contraptions.

Here's a rundown of features that plenty of players miss.

1) Crawling

Crawling is a movement option that hardly anyone uses. You need a trapdoor to shove yourself down into the crawl pose. It lets you squeeze through 1x1 horizontal spaces, like in the picture above.

Players tend to make wide openings for their bases and tunnel through caves, so crawling never comes up.

2) Item repairing

Folks craft gear and usually add unbreaking or mending to stop it from breaking. If something breaks anyway, they just remake it. Most forget there's a quick fix to restore durability.

Put it on an anvil. For instance, if your diamond pickaxe is almost gone, add one or two diamonds to repair it, as shown in the picture above.

3) Quasi Connectivity

Quasi Connectivity is a neat redstone rule in Minecraft. It lets blocks like droppers or pistons power up without a direct redstone link. It's basically ghost power when the block sits one spot above or beside a powered block.

Pistons show this best. They can push out with no visible connection, which can throw off circuits. Expert redstone users rely on quasi-connectivity a lot, but this Java Edition-only trick flies under the radar for most.

4) Respawn Anchors

Respawn anchors sit unused by most in Minecraft. They set your spawn point in the Nether or End for when you die. Great for Nether respawns since beds won't work there.

New players miss it entirely. They try sleeping in the Nether, beds explode, and they drop the idea of a Nether spawn forever. So many just don't know this block is there.

5) Repairing Elytra

Once you grab an elytra, the goal is mending to fix it after flights. That's the prime method, but you can also patch it with phantom membrane.

Repairing Elytra gets overlooked because phantoms rarely appear, especially if you sleep every night. Membrane comes only from them, so players chase mending instead of skipping sleep to hunt phantoms.
