Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem launches on December 9, 2025. In just a few hours, players can start playing the new update for the block game. The drop adds new mobs and variants like nautilus, zombie horse, camel husk, parched skeleton, and more. It also adds the spear, a craftable melee weapon with a special mechanic.

Table of Contents
1) Craft saddles

Mounts of Mayhem introduces four new rideable mobs and variants: nautilus, zombie nautilus, camel husk, and zombie horse. If you want to track them down and ride them right away in the update, get saddles ready now.
Saddles are craftable these days, so you can make a bunch without hassle. Each one takes three leather and one iron ingot.
2) Find Cold Ocean biomes

Scout out Cold Ocean biomes like Frozen Ocean, Cold Ocean, Deep Cold Ocean, and Deep Frozen Ocean before the release. They have a 50% chance to spawn the new nautilus mob, which you can tame and ride.
If you are looking forward to these, find some cold oceans now and wait for the update to bring nautiluses.
3) Practice spear movements in snapshots or beta

The spear is a new melee weapon added in Mounts of Mayhem. Craft it with one stick and two earth minerals like iron ingots, copper ingots, or diamonds. It features jab and charge attacks.
The weapon drops December 9, 2025, but you can test it today in snapshots, betas, and previews for Java and Bedrock Edition. Get some practice in before the full release.
4) Find and keep Pufferfish

Gather up pufferfish before the drop. You tame nautilus by feeding it enough pufferfish or using a bucket of pufferfish. They show up with a 37-11% chance in warm and lukewarm oceans.
Pufferfish are not that common, so spend some time collecting enough to tame nautilus.
5) Save netherite for horse armor

Minecraft finally lets you craft netherite horse armor. Diamond armor is the best available now. To give your horse the top protection as soon as the drop hits, mine ancient debris for netherite ingots. Use those to upgrade diamond horse armor to netherite.
