The devs behind Battlefield 6 have updated the XP setup in Portal mode to deal with problems from all the XP bot farming that's been happening. Grinding XP by taking on bots over and over is one of the most debated things in Battlefield 6, and the team is putting in effort to cut it down.

Battlefield 6 launched on October 10 and turned into a massive success fast. It moved over 7 million copies in five days, and experts figure EA pulled in around $350 million from those early sales. Even with the strong sales and solid reviews, plenty of players think XP leveling is dragging too much, so they've turned to XP bot farms a lot, which has grabbed Battlefield Studios' notice.

No more easy EXP

Battlefield Studios just pushed a key update to how XP bot farms function in Battlefield 6. They've added backend fixes for smoother matchmaking and tweaked bots in Verified Experiences to boost map quality. For Verified Experiences to hand out full progression and XP, creators must unpublish them, turn off “Bot Backfill”, and republish. Custom Experiences will keep giving lower XP, bots or not.

This builds on Battlefield 6's latest hit to XP bot farming. The update slipped in a removal of Mastery XP and challenge progress from Portal lobbies with bots on. That cut the value of bot farming way down, with the goal of keeping servers clear of them. The team points out that too many bot farms get in the way of players finding the true experiences Portal is built for.

This push against XP bot farms won't catch anyone off guard who's been tracking Battlefield 6. The devs mentioned fixing XP farms last week, and now players are getting the full picture of those adjustments. With luck, they'll refine the XP system so folks don't feel pushed into these shortcuts.

Tackling balance and XP bot farms isn't the full story for Battlefield Studios. Season 1 for Battlefield 6 is on the way, bringing serious updates to the first-person shooter. It'll split into three phases: Rogue Ops starting October 28, California Resistance on November 18, and Winter Offensive on December 9.

Battlefield 6's October 24 Community Update Official Notes

As part of this push, we've released backend updates to back up better matchmaking and stronger experiences in Portal. That covers fixing surprise glitches that hit XP progression and balance, plus pulling bots from Verified Experiences for now to raise match quality.

Verified Experiences with “Bot Backfill” off still provide Full Progression and XP.

Custom Experiences stick with reduced progression, whether bots are running or not. This preserves creative options and lets you show off in Portal while holding onto balance.

To apply these updates right and unlock full XP, qualifying experiences should get unpublished, have “Bot Backfill” switched off, and then republished. Servers, persistent ones included, might need occasional restarts. Those quick breaks could keep going until the upgrades wrap up.
