Battlefield 6 has outdone itself, becoming the biggest Battlefield game ever in terms of concurrent players and even beating its main competitor, Call of Duty, the heavyweight of the shooter world. Nice to see some real competition, right?
Looks like BF might own this gen
On Saturday night during the Battlefield 6 Open Beta’s busiest moment, the game hit around 520,000 players on Steam at once. That made it the fourth most-played game on the platform that weekend, trailing only Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG. It also ranks as the 22nd biggest game ever on Steam based on concurrent players.
What’s even more impressive is that it topped Call of Duty’s all-time peak of 491,000 players, set nearly three years ago. The gap between these two franchises had grown pretty wide lately, so these numbers are a solid sign that Call of Duty’s got some serious competition in the FPS scene, just as a former Blizzard exec predicted.
EA shared on social media, “This is Battlefield’s biggest Open Beta ever.” But with so many players jumping in, they also warned that “peak time is coming up, and you might have to wait in line.” They’re working on speeding up those entry times but asked for patience while they sort it out.
“We want everyone to have a smooth and fair Open Beta, including those already playing. Thanks for being so excited about Battlefield 6’s Open Beta,” EA added.
Battlefield 6 Bans 330K Cheaters
The Battlefield 6 Open Beta isn’t free from the classic FPS problem: cheaters. EA’s been cracking down, banning over 330,000 bad apples already, but with more slipping into the beta, they’re clear that their anti-cheat system isn’t a one-shot solution.
In a forum update, EA talked about Secure Boot, a required anti-cheat feature that blocks access if it’s turned off or if your PC has “vulnerable drivers enabled.” With cheating reports piling up, EA noted, “Secure Boot is not, and was not intended to be, a silver bullet.” Instead, Secure Boot and their anti-cheat system, called Javelin, are part of an ongoing battle against cheaters. “Secure Boot helps us build our defenses,” the update said. “It’s an extra hurdle that makes it tougher for cheat developers to create hacks and easier for us to catch them when they do.”
