Dan Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar, says that he is glad that Red Dead Redemption 2 is the next game of the studio to be released. The reason is that he doesn't want to release Grand Theft Auto 6 while Donald Trump is still the president of the USA.
On answering an interview held by GQ magazine, Houser regarded the political environment nowadays in the US as a factor that makes it "really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did."
Grand Theft Auto games from Rockstar have been widely known for its sarcastic view on the controversial issues of society. Let us take a look at the Civil Border Patrol in GTA5 for an example. These are idiots who try to capture immigrants who are "dangerous and illegal". In truth, though, these immigrants are nothing like the descriptions. In order to complete the "American Welcome" mission, players have to use a taser to stun and catch Mexicans, even though they are regarded as legal citizens. An irritating "private military corporation" makes a frequent appearance in the game, and the political viewpoints of both the extreme left and right-wing are the topics to make fun of on radio stations.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a little different as the background of the game is a century ago and its issues were, obviously, not the kinds that we have today. But according to Houser, there will still be the presence of sensitive matters in the past, such as racial discrimination and gender inequality.
