Glen Schofield, the creator of the original Dead Space and director of The Callisto Protocol, has a direct message for developers planning releases in the coming months: do not get anywhere near Grand Theft Auto 6.
In a recent interview, Schofield described the upcoming Rockstar Games title as a force that other studios are actively trying to dodge. With GTA 6 now set for a November 19 launch, the industry is seeing a wave of schedule shifts aimed at escaping what he calls the game's "blast radius."
"With all this money that came in during the pandemic, you now have too many AAA games coming out at Christmas, as opposed to a few plus something from Nintendo," Schofield said. "There are no new people in the market, so if there are too many games out at once, they're gonna fail. And so everyone tries to get out of the blast radius of any big game."
He then delivered the stark warning about GTA 6 itself. "You don't wanna be near it," Schofield stated. "Yes, it's gonna bring people back to gaming, and I think that's great for the industry, but not many other games are gonna be sold."

The comments reflect a growing reality in game development. Blockbuster releases like GTA 6 tend to dominate attention, marketing budgets, and consumer spending for weeks or even months after launch. Smaller titles or even other big-budget projects risk being overlooked in the shuffle.
Some studios have already adjusted accordingly and appear relieved. The production director for Lego Batman: The Legacy of the Dark Knight noted that the extra space has given their team room to showcase their game without being overshadowed.
Schofield's perspective comes from years at the helm of major franchises. His experience with Dead Space and later projects gives his take added credibility in an industry where timing can make or break a release.
As the countdown to November 19 continues, expect more developers to quietly move their launch dates. For now, the message from one of gaming's veteran creators is simple: when GTA 6 drops, give it the widest possible berth.
