Mojang Studios has officially unveiled the next major game drop for Minecraft: Chaos Cubed. This underground-focused update arrives as Java Edition 26.2 and Bedrock Edition 26.30 during the second quarter of 2026. The reveal during the March 2026 Minecraft Live event highlighted fresh cave content that will transform how players explore the depths of the Overworld.

While additional details will continue to roll out in the coming months, here are all the features Mojang has confirmed so far.

Sulfur Caves: A Brand New Cave Biome

The star of Chaos Cubed is the Sulfur Caves, a vibrant new cave biome that generates beneath multiple surface biomes across the Overworld. These expansive underground spaces feature striking yellow and red color palettes, creating toxic-looking environments packed with new exploration opportunities.

Unlike previous cave biomes, Sulfur Caves bring a mix of danger and beauty with glowing crystalline formations and hazardous elements that encourage careful navigation.

New Block Families: Sulfur and Cinnabar

Two complete new block sets debut in the Sulfur Caves, giving players exciting building materials:

  • Sulfur blocks – Yellow crystalline blocks available in polished, brick, and chiseled variants. A special "potent sulfur" version releases bubbles when placed underwater.
  • Cinnabar blocks – Bold red rock variants including polished, brick, and chiseled forms.

These blocks can be mined as raw resources directly in the new biome and crafted into a wide variety of construction pieces, perfect for builders looking to add volcanic or chemical-themed flair to their creations.

Hazardous Sulfur Pools

Scattered throughout the Sulfur Caves are sulfur pools: bodies of water covered in visible gas animations. Spending too much time in these pools triggers the Nausea status effect. A dizzying visual overlay appears on your screen and intensifies the longer you remain submerged, making it increasingly difficult to swim out.

These pools add genuine risk to cave exploration and create memorable environmental hazards that players must learn to avoid or counter.

New Mob: The Sulfur Cube

A brand new mob called the Sulfur Cube will spawn exclusively in the Sulfur Caves. Shaped like a cube similar to slimes and magma cubes, this creature features a unique facial expression that sets it apart. It possesses the ability to absorb nearby blocks, which directly changes its behavior and movement style. Early footage suggests players may even be able to feed the Sulfur Cube, hinting at potential interaction mechanics.

Release Window and What Comes Next

Chaos Cubed is expected to launch sometime in mid to late 2026, following the established game drop schedule. Mojang has confirmed this is only the beginning of the reveal process. Additional features, balance changes, and possible quality of life improvements are likely to be announced in future snapshots and live streams.
