Fate Trigger, known in Chinese as 命运扳机, is a free-to-play Unreal Engine 5 tactical shooter from Shenzhen studio Saroasis Studios, a Tencent-backed team with roots in Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile, Peacekeeper Elite, CrossFire, and Apex Legends Mobile. First shown in 2024 as Fate Trigger: The Novita, it mixes battle royale pressure with hero abilities and 3D anime characters called Awakeners.
How it plays
Matches can put 100 players on floating islands. Squads of four loot, craft, drive vehicles, and fight while a disaster called the Paleblight closes the map. Combat is third-person with a short time to kill, so positioning and abilities matter as much as aim. Each Awakener fills one role: Assault, Support, Recon, or Defender. Guns stay central. Skills add tactics such as mist screens, holographic cover, water stealth, fire walls, and remote revives. A Gun-Chip system customizes weapons. Revive tools make squad play closer to Apex than classic last-person-standing shooters. A first-person camera is planned later for some modes.
Tested modes include Awakener Trials, the main battle royale on Helix Airena; Rapid Trials, a faster shrinking-zone variant; 8v8 Team Deathmatch on compact maps such as Factory and Armory; and point defense. A later map, Blightfront, is a dense 2 km by 2 km urban arena.
The heroes
Ten Awakeners appeared in tests, including Eos, a light-based duelist; Nase, a water seafarer; Kira, a defender who builds holographic forts; Huxley, a mist scout; Xiva, a fire controller; and Camille, a remote healer. Fally can clone herself and swap places. Tata and Bibi, a ferret and robot pair, plant turrets on almost any surface, including vehicles. Characters are meant to stay free, with money coming from cosmetics.
Platforms and delay
Steam is the global PC storefront. PlayStation 5 is set to launch with PC. Xbox Series and mobile remain long-term goals. Cross-play between PS5 and PC has already been tested. China approved a license in April 2025.
A closed alpha in 2024 and a large beta in July 2025 drew hundreds of thousands of players. Early access was planned for Q1 2026, and a Steam Next Fest playtest ran in February and March 2026. On March 31, 2026, the studio delayed early access. Development lead JH said the current package was too thin and that a new mode as large as Awakener Trials still needed work. No new date has been set. As of mid-September 2026, Steam still lists 2026 and official channels have posted little beyond calendars and lore notes.
What testers said
Players praised the look, hero kits, and squad tools. Common complaints were empty map space, hitching in full matches, very short TTK that made armor feel weak, and the usual cheat worries around a free Chinese shooter. Those notes explain the wait: the concept is clear, but the first public season still needs more maps, modes, and content.
Fate Trigger is wishlisted on Steam and listed on the PlayStation Store.
