You can't make it through a week without hearing something about GTA 6. The catch is that these updates rarely spill real details on the game, and they almost never come straight from Rockstar, except when the studio is letting people go. The most recent scoop comes from a former Rockstar developer who shared his insider view on the title and warned that the massive hype for GTA 6 could completely drop off if the game faces another delay.

Everyone knows GTA 6 has been cooking for what feels like ages. The open-world game was first eyed for a 2025 launch, then bumped to May 2026 without much fanfare. To make matters worse for fans, Rockstar hit them with another delay, shifting it a full year later to November 2026.

These days, GTA 6 feels like it's always just out of grasp. But this ex-employee insists Rockstar can't push it back anymore, and he sounds dead certain about that November 2026 release window.

Ex-Rockstar Employee Thinks GTA 6 Will Not Get Delayed Further, Warns About Hype Dying Down

Mike York, an animator who worked on GTA V, chatted with Esports Insider about the delay announced in November. "If I know Rockstar Games and the team there, one big reason for pushing back GTA 6 is to make it look the best it possibly can," he said.

"They're fine-tuning everything. Given the stakes and sky-high expectations, I doubt they're fully wrapped up," he continued. On the November 26, 2026, date, York said, "I figure it'll drop then. It's prime timing for Rockstar to move tons of copies."

He added, "November means it's out a month before Christmas, perfect for big sales."

York also cautioned Rockstar that one more slip could tank interest in the game. "We've already waited forever for GTA 6, so another delay might make folks tune out even harder," he noted.

"Delay it again, and the hype will pretty much vanish. Searches for GTA 6 are dead right now since there's zero news or buzz. Push it too far, and you just start ticking people off."

Search engines might argue with the no-searches claim, but talk about the game has definitely slowed in recent weeks. With the release timeline all over the place, most fans are just holding out for official word from Rockstar instead of chasing rumors.
