Coming out for PC in 2018, Frostpunk has gained a lot of positive comments for putting This War of Mine's gameplay in a brand new survival theme. And to give consoles gamers a chance to experience its goods, the developer 11 bit has pushed out the game for PS4 and Xbox One!

If you haven't heard of this game, watch this trailer of Frostpunk below to feel the struggle of a leader keeping the last city of human running:

The concept of Frostpunk

Frostpunk takes the settings of the 19th-century industrial revolution, in which a disaster suddenly strikes, freezing the entire Earth. Luckily, there's still one thing that can bring warmth to civilization, which is the steam-powered technology.

The world is running out of heat source now after the disaster strikes

Now, in this extremely cold world, you'll take the role of the leader of the last civilized community on Earth. Your quest is to build the last city on Earth near the last heat source for the survivors and maintain the living conditions for the society. Quite simple, isn't it?

Well, it's actually very harsh, as you will have to give up your moral values just to make the city functioning. Amidst this situation, maybe the only thing that's colder than the temperature out there are the decisions you have to deliver to keep your citizen living.

Frostpunk is a heavy choice-driven game, in which you'll have to make a lot of cold decisions

What are those decisions? What will you choose to become in this city - a tough and fistful ruler or the kind one that will fail to keep the society together?

Gameplay features

As I've mentioned, Frostpunk brings a lot of similar elements of This War Is Mine - an older game from the same developer. Basically, it's a city-building game where every choice you make will decide the outcome of the entire city.

To be more specific, you'll take control of every matter about your city. As the last city that still has a heat source, there will be a bunch of problems appearing in everyday lives. To keep it running properly, you'll have to enforce laws to regulate the activities in the city. For example, you can decide the working hours of the people, keeping track of food resources, establishing healthcare facilities and many more.

Build more facilities to keep your society running properly

And that's when the intriguing parts kick in. While optimizing and managing resources, you'll encounter some tough situations that require you to deliver severe decisions. Powers always come with responsibilities, and the same goes for this game. For example, a newborn faction has appeared in your city, and you'll have to decide whether to satisfy their demands.

What will you do if there's a protest?

Most of the time you encounter this situation in real-life, stepping back is not a great choice. Getting rid of them somehow is very cruel, but it's necessary to maintain the momentum of the city. Leadership can be a burden at this point. Showing them how should they do with your iron fists, or showing the route of faith and compassion, it all depends on you. Just remember, your smallest decisions will shape the city, and there is no way to turn things over.

Would you convince the people to trust you again, or keep them surviving from the storm?

Apart from that, there are several things that you have to keep track of as well. In order to survive, you not only need to optimizing and managing your resources but also enhance your city's technology as well. Invent new technologies is mandatory, and you also have to spend some of your time exploring the outer world to unveil the truth behind the disaster.
