The film Grand Theft Hamlet, which was made entirely in GTA Online, now has a release date for international audiences. A new trailer has also been released. This award-winning documentary was written and directed by Pinny Grylls and Sam Crane, and it was shown in UK cinemas earlier this month.
Although there are already many reviews out, the film will still be in UK cinemas until January 31st. Now, GTA Online fans worldwide can watch it both in cinemas and via streaming.
The funny and emotional film focuses on two actors who play GTA Online during the pandemic. They try to perform Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the Vinewood Bowl in Los Santos, involving random players they meet in the game lobbies.
MUBI, the film distributor, announced on Thursday that Grand Theft Hamlet will be released in US theaters on Friday, January 17, 2025. You can watch the new trailer for the US release right here.
It’s still unknown when the film will be available to stream worldwide. It’s likely to be released after its run in US theaters ends in early 2025. Let’s see the official synopsis from MUBI.
GRAND THEFT HAMLET by Sam Crane and Pinny Grylls follows two out-of-work actors as they try to stage Hamlet entirely inside the chaotic world of Grand Theft Auto Online. Hailed as “the year’s funniest documentary” by Time Out, this SXSW-winning documentary is chaotic, hilarious, and just a little bit insane.
