This patch packs a punch with new magical gameplay, extensive customization options, balance tweaks, and quality-of-life improvements that address player feedback from the initial launch.
The official announcement on X from @Hytale highlights the star attractions: the Necromancy Grimoire for summoning skeletal minions, togglable armor visibility, and much more. Players can dive in immediately via the official launcher.
New Magic: Raise Your Army with the Necromancy Grimoire
One of the biggest additions is the introduction of magic through the Necromancy Grimoire. This powerful item has a chance to drop from the large Praetorian Skeleton boss. Once obtained, it lets players raise up to five skeletal minions from nearby bone piles. The summons last for five minutes or until the caster dies, opening up exciting combat strategies and role-playing opportunities.
Cosmetics and Customization Boom
Update 2 delivers a wave of avatar personalization for all editions:
- Bandit Mask + Side Knot (Variant)
- Blindfold + Thick (Variant)
- Bandage Blindfold + Thick, Left Eye, Right Eye (Variants)
- Vampire Mouth, Cute Mouth, Orc Mouth
- White color added to fantasy cotton cosmetics
- Updated visuals for haircuts like Single Side Pigtail, Hair Stick Bun, Simple Bobcut, Fighter Buns, Smart Elven, and Windswept
A standout feature is the new armor slot visibility toggles in the character panel. Server hosts can enforce these for PvP fairness or immersion. Cape animations have also been smoothed out for running players.
Mining and Progression Reworked
Mining receives a major overhaul to make tool upgrades feel rewarding:
- Adamantite ore now requires a Thorium or Cobalt pickaxe.
- Lower-tier pickaxes deal far less damage to higher-tier ores.
- Higher-quality pickaxes drastically reduce hits needed, scaling mining speed properly.
Additional tweaks include buffed Polar Bears, more decorative light recipes on the furniture bench, and adjusted hide drops (Medium Hide from Bison, Boar, Cow, Horse, Warthog). Petals are now fully craftable and renewable via Sunflower Seeds, with lighter Cloth Block variants added.
The Magma Toad's tongue damage is nerfed, now alternating with a Headbutt attack.
World Generation and Farming Enhancements
WorldGen V2 is primed for modder documentation, with new Default_Flat and Default_Void templates. The Creative Hub Portal uses V2 flat gen for clearer weather and less fog in new worlds. Ore placement across all zones is refactored for more abundance, especially underground in Devastated Lands - explore new chunks to see it.
Farming gets player-friendly updates:
- Eternal crops resist accidental weapon damage.
- Tilled soil lasts 1.2 to 1.5 days.
- No soil decay under fully grown crops.
- Hold torches in offhand while hoeing/seeding.
- Breaking Eternal crops drops seeds; crouch to place harvested crops.
- Hoe tiers adjusted (Copper at Tier 2, Iron at Tier 4, Thorium at Tier 6).
Emerald Wilds dungeons and environments are fixed, potentially unlocking new soundtracks.
UI, UX, Audio, and Stability Overhauls
Quality-of-life shines here:
- Better editor block tooltips and clothing color previews.
- Hotbar active slot gets diamond indicator for visibility.
- Alphabetical Memory sorting, Scripted Brush improvements (new decoration/cave brushes).
- Inventory shortcuts (QERT for quick actions like pull all).
- Optional FPS counter.
- Compass shows player markers with height indicators; map toggles.
- Ophidiophobia mode turns snakes into Hatworms.
Audio adds Rex sounds, fixes bone drag sounds, and updates food particles. Visuals include shadow improvements and smoother weather transitions.
Bug fixes are extensive: server auto-updater, pick block in full hotbar, mantling issues, keybind persistence, rail cart placement, bed respawns, teleporter offsets, and major backend stability for servers (ECS, validation, localization).
