Acclaimed voice actress Jennifer English has announced she is stepping away from her lead role as Gwendolyn in the upcoming action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation, citing health reasons.

Statement from Jennifer English

In a statement shared on her social media channels earlier today, English expressed regret over the decision while emphasizing the need to focus on her well-being.

"I have made the difficult choice to step away from Tides of Annihilation to prioritize my health," English said. "I remain incredibly grateful for the opportunity to voice Gwendolyn and for the support of the team at Eclipse Glow Games. I hope to return to the project when the time is right."

About the Game

Tides of Annihilation, developed by Eclipse Glow Games, is a fantasy action-adventure title inspired by Arthurian legend. The story unfolds in a surreal, post-apocalyptic version of London, where players control Gwendolyn, the last surviving human, as she confronts supernatural invaders and leads spectral knights to restore her shattered world.

English was cast in the starring role following her widely praised performances as Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3 and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the latter of which earned her the Best Performance award at The Game Awards 2025.

Studio Response

Eclipse Glow Games issued a supportive response to the news. "We fully respect Jennifer's decision and are thankful for the passion and talent she has brought to Gwendolyn so far," the studio said in a statement. "We are working closely with her during this time and will provide further updates on the project as they become available. Our thoughts are with Jennifer as she focuses on her recovery."

The announcement has prompted an outpouring of support from the gaming community. Fans across platforms have shared messages wishing English a swift recovery and praising her contributions to recent standout titles.

No details have been released regarding a potential recast or adjustments to the development schedule. Tides of Annihilation currently has no confirmed release date.

English has previously spoken openly about her ADHD diagnosis and continues to be regarded as one of the most distinctive and acclaimed voices in video games. Her departure from the project represents an unexpected development for what many had viewed as a promising next chapter in her career.
