The class system in Battlefield 6 is the backbone of its huge, chaotic battles. This time around, the classes are the same old favorites, but they’ve been spruced up with new abilities and traits to keep things fresh.

Battlefield 6 sticks with the classic four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Each one has its own weapons, gadgets, traits, and active abilities, making them feel unique and pushing you to work together, think smart, and master your role.

This guide breaks down all the BF6 classes based on the open beta, so you can pick the one that suits how you like to play.

Battlefield 6 Classes and Abilities

Right now, in the beta, each class gets one training path for their field specialization. At launch, a second path will unlock for everyone, along with new gadgets and probably more weapons. The secondary pistol is just the P18 for now.

Also, Assault gets the most grenade options, packing flashbangs alongside frag and smoke grenades. Everyone else is stuck with just frag and smoke.

Assault

The Assault class is your go-to for charging in and causing chaos. They’re built for aggressive pushes, with rifles that work in tons of situations, mobility-focused abilities, and the option to carry an extra primary weapon. They’re perfect for breaking through enemy defenses, messing up strongholds, and clearing the way for your squad to grab objectives.

Signature Weapon Signature Gadget Signature Trait Gadgets
Assault rifle – Quick to draw and switch, plus faster sprint recovery. Adrenaline Injector – A shot of stims to boost your fighting. Temporarily ups sprint speed, cuts explosive damage, resists debuffs, and makes enemy footsteps louder. Soft Landing – Less damage from falls, no speed penalty after dropping. High Explosive Launcher – Shoots explosives that go off on impact, great for wrecking cover or hitting infantry hiding out.
Thermobaric Grenade Launcher – Fires explosives that stun and burn enemies for a bit, ideal for groups.

Note: Assault can swap in a carbine, DMR, or shotgun in their first gadget slot.

Assault Field Specs

  • Level 2: Quick Recovery – Heal faster (+50% rate, -50% delay).
  • Class Active Ability: Combat Stimulant – Pop this to hear enemy sounds better and spot nearby enemies (lasts 5 seconds, extends with kills).

Engineer

Engineers are your answer to tanks, choppers, and jets. They’re all about shutting down enemy vehicles before they take over the match. With rockets, mines, and anti-armor gear, they can wreck heavy threats. Plus, they’re the only ones who can fix friendly vehicles, fortifications, and weapon emplacements, making them key for both attack and defense.

Battlefield 6 Field Specs

Every class in BF6 has two field specialization paths (only one per class in the beta) to tweak your playstyle. These specs give you unique perks and abilities to match your tactics.

You level up these paths by earning XP through kills, objectives, and helping your team. Sticking with a path unlocks better bonuses and stronger abilities, but you can still switch up your loadout to handle whatever the match throws at you.

Can You Change Class in Battlefield 6?

Yup, you can switch classes during a match in BF6. You pick one of the four roles at the start, but if things change, you can swap when you die or respawn. A prompt (like Y on PC) lets you pick a new class and tweak your loadout before jumping back in.
