Big news for Minecraft fans! During the Nintendo Direct on June 9, 2026, Mojang Studios and Nintendo announced a native version of Minecraft Bedrock Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. The update brings the brand-new Vibrant Visuals graphics upgrade as the default setting, promising a major visual glow-up powered by the console's stronger hardware.

What Are Vibrant Visuals?

Vibrant Visuals is Minecraft's biggest graphics overhaul yet. First introduced in the Chase the Skies update back in June 2025, it completely transforms the look of the game with enhanced lighting and effects. On the Switch 2, these features will run smoothly and look even better thanks to the new hardware.

Key improvements include:

  • Directional lighting that makes sunlight and shadows feel more realistic
  • Volumetric fog for atmospheric depth in caves and forests
  • Dynamic shadows that shift naturally with the time of day
  • Sunlight reflections on water and other surfaces
  • Drifting clouds with improved sky rendering

Seamless Transition for Current Players

Good news if you already play Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch: your worlds, saves, and progress can be transferred easily to the Switch 2 version. The new native port also fixes many of the bugs and performance issues players complained about on the older console.

Extra bonus: The popular Super Mario Mash-Up Pack gets an exclusive visual refresh with the Vibrant Visuals treatment, letting you explore a fully upgraded Mario-themed world.

Release Details and Multiplayer

The exact launch date has not been revealed yet, but the game is scheduled to arrive later in 2026. Multiplayer will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, just like the current version.

This native Bedrock Edition means Switch 2 owners can finally enjoy Minecraft with modern visuals while keeping the same familiar gameplay, cross-play, and massive marketplace content.
