Evokers are one of Minecraft’s toughest and most rewarding mobs to face, packing deadly magic and dropping the coveted Totem of Undying. Whether you’re raiding a woodland mansion or defending a village from a pillager assault, knowing how these illagers spawn, fight, and what they leave behind is key to coming out on top. This guide breaks down everything you need to tackle evokers, from their spawning spots to battle strategies and loot.
Minecraft Evoker Spawning
Evokers only show up in a couple of places. You’ll find them in woodland mansions, those big, creepy houses in dark forest biomes, usually hanging out on the upper floors in small groups.
They also pop up during village raids, starting around wave 5 on Easy or Normal difficulty, or wave 3 on Hard. They’re tied to these specific spots and events, so you won’t see them just wandering around. In Bedrock Edition, there’s a rare chance they’ll appear in patrol groups in certain biomes after some time.
Behavior
These guys are no joke and will go after players, villagers, iron golems, and wandering traders if they’re within 12 blocks. They’ve got two main tricks: a fang attack that summons damaging spikes from the ground in a line or circle, hitting for 6 damage, and a spell that calls in 2–4 vexes, annoying little flying mobs with swords that vanish after a minute or two.
Evokers aren’t into close combat—they’ll run if you get too near and focus on casting spells. In raids, they might ride ravagers or team up with pillagers, and if you kill one, it can slap nearby players with the Bad Omen effect, possibly kicking off another raid wave.
Minecraft Evoker Drops
When you take down an evoker, you’re guaranteed a Totem of Undying, a super rare item that saves you from death once by reviving you with full health, though it gets used up. You might also snag 0–1 emeralds, with a better shot at more if you’ve got the Looting enchantment—up to 4 with Looting III. They drop 10 XP orbs too. The totem’s a one-per-kill deal, no matter what.
Tips
Fighting evokers is easier with a bow or crossbow to keep your distance and dodge those fangs. Smack their vexes fast before they gang up on you, and use a shield or stand on higher ground to block the fang attack. enchanted armor, especially with Protection IV, helps a ton.
If you don’t want a raid, bring milk to clear Bad Omen. For farming totems, raids are better than hunting down rare woodland mansions—set up a raid farm in a village with a controlled spawn area to rack up evoker kills.
