Minecraft loves throwing in fresh features and mobs to keep the game feeling alive and give players new ways to mess around. The devs have been hyping the upcoming Mounts of Mayhem update, dropping hints about what's coming in these snapshots. That said, the newest experimental version tweaked the spear in a way that's got the community pretty down.

Here's the rundown on why folks are bummed about the spear updates in the latest Minecraft snapshot.

Latest Minecraft snapshot introduces major nerf to spear, sparking debate and disappointment

The recent snapshots, betas, and previews have been letting players get a head start on testing the Mounts of Mayhem features and new creatures before they hit the full release. But this latest snapshot dropped a big nerf on the spear, and players are straight-up annoyed about it.

YouTuber and gamer @RealThisisChris put up a clip on X that breaks down the changes to the upcoming update's mechanics. He highlighted how the spear's Lunge attack now drains hunger points, tiring out the player just like sprinting or jumping would.

A level 1 Lunge takes 3 hunger points, level 2 hits 4, and level 3 goes for 5. Basically, it turns the spear into a pricey tool when it comes to managing your resources.

Is the change good or bad?

The original clip racked up 4.6 million views, then @ZachInsomnia shared it, pushing it past 2 million more. Tons of players chimed in, ripping into the update and saying Mojang basically ruined the weapon with that steep cost.

The huge hunger drain makes picking the spear a risky move, especially if your food bar's already dipping low. If you plan to lean on it as your go-to, you'll have to haul around extra eats.

On the flip side, some players backed the tweak, calling it smart balancing instead of a straight nerf. They argued it keeps the spear from getting too strong, particularly in PvP setups. Capping the Lunge like this stops people from spamming it endlessly. Plus, since it's still in testing, there's a good shot Mojang will tweak it based on what players say.

Even though most of the crowd hates the spear nerf, a few urged holding off judgment until the final version drops to see what the team settles on. Others just recommended grabbing mods to run the spear raw, no balances attached.
