Minecraft players can mark their calendars. Mojang Studios has confirmed that a native version of the block-building phenomenon will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026.
Vibrant Visuals Bring Enhanced Graphics
The Switch 2 edition will run with Vibrant Visuals enabled by default. This graphics upgrade, first introduced in 2025, brings enhanced lighting, improved shadow effects, volumetric fog, and other visual refinements that make the familiar world of Minecraft look richer and more immersive. Supported Marketplace content will also benefit from these enhancements. Note that Vibrant Visuals will not be available in every situation, including split-screen play and certain Marketplace worlds or content.
Nintendo’s exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up pack is receiving its own update to take full advantage of the new visuals. The pack, which includes Mario-themed textures, music, skins, and recreations of locations such as Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza, will look better than ever on the more powerful hardware.
Upgrade Path and Save Data Transfer
Existing Nintendo Switch owners will not be left behind. Save data can be carried over from the original Switch version, allowing players to continue their worlds without starting over. Mojang has also confirmed a digital upgrade path for those who already own the game on Switch, though specific details on pricing and the process will be shared closer to launch.
While the original Switch edition of Minecraft has been playable on Switch 2 through backward compatibility since the console’s release, this dedicated version is optimized to make better use of the new hardware’s capabilities. Additional features, such as potential support for Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, have not yet been confirmed.
What Comes Next for Minecraft Fans
The October 27 release follows closely after Minecraft Dungeons II, which is scheduled for September 29 across platforms including Switch and Switch 2. Fans of the franchise will have plenty of new content to dig into this fall.
