Fans of Grand Theft Auto VI can breathe a sigh of relief. In its Q3 fiscal 2026 earnings call on February 3, Take-Two Interactive reaffirmed that Rockstar Games' blockbuster is firmly on track for a November 19, 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This marks the third official window for GTA 6 after initial plans for fall 2025 were pushed to May 26, 2026, and then to November following Rockstar's November 6, 2025 announcement citing the need for extra polish. CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed strong assurance during the call, responding to questions about the date with, "I feel good about it. Very good about it."
A History of Delays, But Signs Point to Stability
GTA 6's development, which began as far back as 2014, has been marked by high expectations and setbacks. A massive leak in September 2022 forced an early trailer reveal in December 2023, locking in a 2025 window. Subsequent delays allowed Rockstar to refine the game set in the fictional state of Leonida, featuring a modern-day Vice City inspired by Miami.
The latest November shift came with Rockstar's statement: "These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." Recent insider reports from January noted the game was not yet content complete, but Zelnick's comments suggest momentum has built.
Summer Marketing Blitz Signals Readiness
One of the biggest reveals? A full marketing push kicks off this summer. Zelnick highlighted this as a "huge departure" from Take-Two's usual silence, teasing "you'll be pretty astonished by the creativity that Rockstar's marketing team brings to consumers in the coming months." Expect Trailer 3, pre-orders, and more, potentially aligning with past patterns like May trailer drops.
Zelnick also debunked rumors of a digital-only launch, confirming physical copies day one alongside digital: "That's not the plan."
Massive Financial Stakes
Take-Two projects record net bookings for fiscal 2027 (ending March 2027), driven by GTA 6. "With ongoing momentum... coupled with the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19th, we continue to project record levels of Net Bookings," Zelnick stated. Analysts eye $3.2 billion in first-year revenue, building on GTA 5's 225 million units sold.
