Shaders are great tools that can be used to improve Minecraft's vanilla graphics so that they look better. However, as shaders are mods, they are not as stable as the usual Minecraft graphics. Players can experience lags, especially on lower end devices. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the 10 best low end shaders for Minecraft Java 2023.
1. Chocapic13's Shaders
Chocapic13’s Shaders mod is the baseline for many other shader mods out there - a lot of other mods use this as a foundation. It is popular among shader pack creators, as it is easy to work with and most of the simplest things have already been configured.
Unlike many shader packs, you can actually tinker with Chocapic13’s Shaders manually by modifying the .fsh and .vsh files using notepad. If you don't want to do this manually, just download the lite version of the Chocapic13's lite Shaders, unzip it and copy the lite variant to Minecraft's shaderpacks folder.
2. Fantasy Vanilla Shaders
Fantasy Vanilla is a shader that focuses on keeping the original aesthetics of Minecraft while adding a few cool twists. The best part about Fantasy Vanilla is that it can run on lower end devices with 1-2 GB of RAM.
Similar to the previous shaders on this list, Fantasy Vanilla improves the world's coloring, adding realistic shadows, lighting, skies and waters. The rain effect and fog are the most advanced part of the shader - they are really realistic looking.
3. Waving plants Shaders
Overall, Waving Plants shaders is a one-trick pony that focuses on the plant waving effect. In this pack, plants wave at different speeds throughout the day, so they seem more alive when the sun is out and sort of settle down after night falls. Rainstorms make them waver and wiggle more than they do even during daylight hours, which is much more immersive.
The special waving effects are much less noticeable in other places, so if you want to see this shader pack at its best, you’d better track down a jungle biome first.
4. Builders QOL Shaders
Builders QOL Shaders 1.19 are great shaders that work especially well on low-end PCs. It adds a few features to make the game look nicer, without going completely overboard. It doesn’t have volumetric lights, bloom, or even shadows; but it does have a handful of features that blend in quite nicely with vanilla, and are cheap to do computationally.
All effects from Builder's QoL shaders can be customized to a high extent. For example, water will be very blurry by default, but turning the 'Water Blur' down to 1 will make it more realistically blurry. If you are into other effects such as Motion Blur or Depth of Field, you can always enable them at the cost of some performance.
5. MakeUp Ultra Fast Shaders
MakeUp Ultra Fast shaders 1.19 is a unique shader pack with great optimization for low-end PCs. All effects and details from this shader can be tweaked and customized, based on the hardware of your device. Overall, the best improvements from this shader are water reflection, clouds, and realistic lighting.
The lowest and highest presets of this shader look almost completely different. However, even at the highest settings, you should still get better FPS than other high-end shaders like BSL.
6. Tea Shaders
Tea Shaders 1.17.1 is a shaderpack for people who want something beautiful but simple, without changing the aesthetics of the game. It has features from high-end shaders, however, the creator manages to keep the game smooth even on low end computers.
Key features of this shader include waving grass, leaves, water, underwater reflection, and Nether heat reflection. The best part of this shader is probably the custom Swamp biome effect. More for other biomes are in the works. This shader is perfect to use alongside world generation mods.
7. Complementary Shaders
Complementary Shaders v4 is a Minecraft Java Edition shader pack based on Capt Tatsu's "BSL Shaders". The goal of Complementary v4 is to be good at everything. Performance, gameplay, beauty, compatibility; you name it. Complementary v4 will try to provide you with the most issueless experience possible within the limitations of the shader pipeline.
It runs reasonably fast, supports almost every GPU and driver, works well with mods that no one thought a shader pack could be compatible with, fixes problems that no other shader packs addressed before, doesn't disturb you with excessive effects, and most importantly, it looks good according to the users.
8. BSL Shaders
BSL Shaders is a shaderpack for Minecraft: Java Edition with high customization and optimization. This shader includes realtime shadows, volumetric light, ambient occlusion, bloom, customizable clouds and water, and built in anti-aliasing. Additional effects are available, such as depth of field, motion blur, specular and normal mapping, celshading, world curvature, and more.
Clouds are still in 2D, and the motion blur effect has been updated to adequately blur textures which find themselves under the new lighting and shadow effects. Colors are bright and come with both a boost and saturation alteration, which gives everything a kind of cel-shaded look.
9. SEUS Shaders
Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders, also know as SEUS is a great way to reinvent the game’s graphics from bland to breathtaking. It overhauls nearly everything about the game’s graphics. With this shader pack, the water looks clear and fluid, plants look alive and seem to sway back and forth as if they were breathing, and nighttime feels even spookier than ever.
Lighting, water and sky textures are also greatly improved as well. It is recommended to run Sonic Ether’s shaders on a powerful computer that can handle all those beautiful and realistic graphical overhaul.
10. Trilitons shaders
Triliton's shaders aim to give players a more colorful, vibrant, and alive feeling. It makes changes to several aspects of Minecraft, including water color and reflectivity, smoothened godrays, and better weather.
It also has a great new color filter that keeps obscenely bright or dark colors from showing up in places where they shouldn’t.
