The Golden Dandelion is a brand-new craftable flower introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 26.1 Snapshot 5, part of the upcoming First Drop 2026 update. This magical bloom lets players pause or resume the aging of baby mobs, allowing you to keep adorable baby animals around indefinitely. It also serves multiple other purposes, from decoration to crafting dyes and stews. Planned for Bedrock Edition 26.10 as well, it's a fun quality-of-life addition for pet lovers and builders alike.

How to Unlock and Craft the Golden Dandelion

Before you can craft it, you must breed your first mob (like two cows with wheat) to unlock the recipe in your crafting book.

The recipe requires a crafting table and these materials:

  • 1 Dandelion (found naturally in plains, sunflower plains, and other flower-generating biomes)
  • 8 Gold Nuggets (smelt gold tools, weapons, armor, or mine gold ore)

Arrange them in the 3x3 crafting grid as follows:

This yields 1 Golden Dandelion, which stacks up to 64 in your inventory.

Alternative Ways to Obtain It

  • Wandering Traders: They occasionally sell 1 Golden Dandelion for 2 emeralds.
  • It drops itself when broken (instantly with any tool or by hand) and cannot be found naturally generating in the world.

Key Features

  • Appearance and Placement: A golden variant of the regular dandelion, it can be planted on grass blocks, dirt, coarse dirt, podzol, mycelium, moss blocks, mud, farmland, rooted dirt, muddy mangrove roots, or in flower pots for decoration. It has grass-like breaking sounds and is flammable but non-luminous.
  • Unique Sounds: Feeding it to a mob plays "item.golden_dandelion.use" (halts aging) or "item.golden_dandelion.unuse" (resumes aging).
  • Piglins Love It: Piglins will inspect dropped Golden Dandelions for 6 seconds (Java Edition) and it's part of the #piglin_loved item tag, helping with the "Oh Shiny" advancement.
  • Bee Attraction: Oak, birch, or cherry saplings grown within 2 blocks have a 5% chance to spawn a bee nest with 2-3 bees.
  • No Composting: Unlike most flowers, it cannot be composted.

Main Uses: Controlling Baby Mob Growth

The star feature: Right-click a baby mob while holding a Golden Dandelion to pause its aging, keeping it tiny forever. Feed it again to resume normal growth. There's a 2-second cooldown per mob, and it consumes 1 flower each time.

Exclusions (via #cannot_be_age_locked tag):

  • Hostile baby mobs (zombies, skeletons, etc.)
  • Baby villagers
  • Tadpoles
  • Undead mounts and baby hoglins

Perfect for eternal puppies, kittens, or baby axolotls from the recent aquatic mob updates!
