After years of trying to repair Warcraft III: Reforged, Blizzard shipped Patch 3.0 with a new campaign, better lighting, a 24-unit selection cap, and one tiny note: LAN is gone, and the Reforged client must stay online at all times.
No reason. No apology. Just a remaster that now needs a live server before Arthas can walk down a hallway. The official fix is the Legacy 1.29 client. That is like selling a new stove, then saying dinner is still available on the old hot plate in the garage.

What you lost
You can no longer play the campaign when the internet drops, host a custom map with your roommate, or test a 12-player RPG without asking Battle.net first. You can still log in so a data center can approve your singleplayer save.
Blizzard added servers from Singapore to Finland. The world is ready to watch Footmen Frenzy fail, as long as every player has a handshake with corporate HQ. Custom lobbies can now use passwords. Nice lock. Shame the local door is gone.
Just use Classic
Classic is the old client Blizzard buried, then pointed at like a museum piece. It has no new campaign and no new graphics. The pitch is: buy Reforged, watch it become an always-online kiosk, then play the 2009 game instead and feel grateful.

Mapmakers got the worst of it. Warcraft III custom maps were built on two PCs on one desk. Nobody buys twelve copies to check a desync. The new workflow is upload, pray the servers are awake, and hope DRM does not cancel your weekend.
Why
Blizzard did not say. The kind theory is anti-piracy for Forsaken Kingdom. The mean theory is a meeting about engagement. The real theory is both. Protect a paid campaign by making the base game worse for people who already paid.
In 2020, Reforged launched as a punchline. Later patches restored some dignity. In 2026, Blizzard released the first new Warcraft RTS campaign in 23 years, then removed the most Warcraft III thing of all: playing with people in the same room.
How to play now

- Stay online forever. If the router blinks, Thrall waits.
- Install Legacy 1.29 and skip the remaster you bought.
- Accept that local area network now means the network Blizzard still allows.
Warcraft III survived LAN cafes, college labs, and two decades of custom maps. It did not need a permission slip. Patch 3.0 added prettier water, then decided the most dangerous thing a player can do is play without supervision.
