In the Blood of the Daedra quest in Oblivion Remastered, Martin requires you to sacrifice one Daedric artifact, and it’s gone for good. Choose wisely to avoid losing something critical to your playstyle. Here’s a guide on what to give up and what to keep.
Top Pick: Masque of Clavicus Vile
The Masque boosts Personality and Speechcraft, which is great for roleplaying or charming NPCs but offers no combat utility. Unless you’re heavily invested in a merchant or diplomacy-focused build, this is the safest artifact to sacrifice. Its effects are easily replicated with spells or potions, making it the least impactful loss.
Other Good Choices
- Wabbajack: This staff’s random creature transformation is chaotic fun but too unpredictable for serious combat. With limited charges, it’s more of a gimmick than a reliable tool. Sacrifice it if you value consistency.
- Sanguine Rose: Summoning a Daedra sounds cool, but the summoned creature can turn on you, and Conjuration spells often outperform it. If you’re not relying on summons, this is an easy one to let go.
- Ebony Blade: A solid two-handed weapon with Absorb Health and Silence enchantments, but these effects are replicable with other gear or enchantments. If you don’t use two-handed weapons, this is a safe choice to sacrifice.
Decent but Riskier Choice
Mace of Molag Bal: In Oblivion Remastered, the Mace’s Absorb Strength enchantment now works correctly, making it a functional weapon that drains enemy strength and absorbs magicka. It’s still not top-tier due to its relatively low damage and charge count, but it’s more useful than before, especially for mage-hunters or melee builds. Only consider sacrificing it if you have better weapons or don’t rely on its enchantments.
What to Avoid Sacrificing
- Azura’s Star: A reusable soul gem is invaluable for enchanting and recharging gear. Never give this up.
- Skeleton Key: Eliminates lockpicking frustration and boosts Security. Essential for thieves or anyone who dislikes the minigame.
- Oghma Infinium: Grants a permanent stat boost, making it a must-keep for any build. You can still sacrifice it if you grinded your stats to 100 already, however.
- Ring of Khajiiti: Chameleon and Speed are fantastic for stealth or mobility-focused characters. Hold onto it unless sneaking isn’t your thing.
- Spell Breaker: Reflect Spell is a game-changer against mages, especially for warriors. Only sacrifice if you’re stacked with magic resistance.
Pro Tip
If you’re feeling sneaky, use the scroll duplication glitch (still present in Oblivion Remastered) to duplicate Azura’s Star, Ring of Khajiiti, Ring of Namira, or Wabbajack. Hand Martin a copy and keep the original for yourself.
