GTA Online dropped mansions with the A Safehouse in the Hills DLC, letting you snag fancy properties in Tongva Hills, Richman, or Vinewood. When buying, you get a menu to pick upgrades for your new pad.

Some are super useful, but others? Not worth the cash. Here’s a rundown of three upgrades that actually make sense to get.

Security

Hands down, the security upgrade is a must if you’re running multiple businesses. It’s pricey at $1,750,000, but it slashes the odds of cops or rivals messing with your other operations. If you’ve already got security for your businesses, adding mansion security completely wipes out the chance of raids. That’s a huge win for keeping your empire safe.

Armory

Adding a personal Armory to your mansion is a solid move. It lets you upgrade weapons to Mk 2, stock up on ammo, armor, and other combat gear without trekking to your Agency or bunker. You’ll need to own an Agency first, and it’ll set you back $720,000, but having everything in one spot is super convenient.

Podium (decorative)

The Podium upgrade is more for show than function, but it’s still pretty cool. For $650,000, you can display one personal vehicle in your mansion’s trophy room. It’s not game-changing, but it’s a fresh way to flex an old car you loved when you started or your go-to ride. Worth trying out if you’ve got the cash to spare.

Interior Lighting (worst upgrade)

On the flip side, the Interior Lighting upgrade is a total letdown. For $500,000, you get to tweak the lighting colors in your mansion’s rooms, but it’s purely cosmetic and doesn’t affect gameplay at all. Unlike the Podium, which at least lets you show off a car, this just changes the ambiance in a way you’ll barely notice after a few hours. Save your money for something that actually matters, like the upgrades above.
