Wuchang: Fallen Feathers NPC Questlines Complete Guide

In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, there are 18 NPC questlines to dive into. You’ve got to tackle 10 of them to snag all the trophies or achievements, while the other eight are optional, handing out consumables or items that aren’t tied to any awards. To unlock all four game endings, you’ll need to chat with these questline characters.

You move questlines forward by talking to NPCs, sometimes handing over specific items you grab from defeating enemies or exploring the world. Some NPCs can be called in to help with certain boss fights if you’ve progressed their questline far enough. When an NPC has a new interaction, their face pops up in the fast travel menu next to the shrine they’re at. Make sure to hit every interaction spot, because missing one and then beating the next boss or the final boss in a region can lock you out of their questline for that playthrough.

NPC Questlines Needed for Trophies/Achievements

These quests are crucial for grabbing items or triggering interactions tied to trophies or achievements. Unless noted, you need to hit every step, or the NPC might vanish for the rest of your playthrough if you miss one.

He Youzai

He Youzai is a key buddy of the main character, popping up all over the game to nudge you toward certain tasks or places.

• Interaction #1 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  Head down the path from Reverent Temple toward the river. On the left, you’ll spot He Youzai. Chat him up to score a Cornucopia Elixir and a Bamboo Lantern, a handy reusable item for lighting up dark spots.
  Note: He usually tosses you a Cornucopia Elixir with every chat, so we won’t keep mentioning it.
• Key Item: Lost Package – Worship’s Rise – Buddha Cliffs
  After the Buddha Cliffs shrine, you’ll hit a cave where you fight the Tang Palace Maid boss. Head out the top exit, and in the grass outside, you’ll find the Lost Package. Hold onto it for He Youzai.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Bandit Cave
  After beating the Blightweaver – Great Centipede boss, keep moving through the next area. In the burnt forest before the Doomwillow Beach shrine, He Youzai’s on the left side of the path. Give him the Lost Package to get Records of the Southern Archipelago.
• Interaction #3 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  Once you’ve taken down Commander – Honglan and warped back to Reverent Temple, find He Youzai on the ground floor before you leave the building. He hands over an Everblend Brew and Cured Jerky (both consumables).
• Interaction #4 – Cloudspire – Snowpeak Pass
  After defeating Ming General – Liu Cheng’en, head into the castle area and through the required buildings. He Youzai’s chilling in a building full of pinwheels along the main path.
• Key Item: Mad Doctor’s Research Note – Cloudspire – Shaft Entrance
  In the shaft area, you’ll hit a room with an altar-like thing in the middle (if you told Glut to return to his Master, he’ll be here with a white-robed enemy). Check under the balcony you entered from to grab the Mad Doctor’s Research Note off a table.
• Interaction #4 – Cloudspire – Shaft Entrance
  Right before the Bride’s Boudoir shrine, in the outdoor area, He Youzai’s on the right side of a bridge. Show him the Mad Doctor’s Research Note.
• Interaction #5 – Mt. Zhenwu – Battlefield Pass
  After crossing the Battlefield Pass, you’ll find He Youzai by a fire as you enter the Refugee Camp. If you’ve been keeping up with Fang Yao’s questline, she’ll be nearby too.
• Interaction #6 – Mt. Zhenwu – Bai Mansion
  After clearing Mt. Zhenwu and beating Fierce Tiger/Sovereign – Zhang Xianzhong, head to the Ferry Overlook shrine (skip the Storyteller’s cave for this). Take the boat to Bai Mansion, and He Youzai’s left of the shrine. If he’s here, you can summon him for the optional Monstrous Toddler – Bai Kru boss fight.
• Interaction #7 – Mt. Zhenwu – Bai Mansion
  After the boss fight (whether you summoned him or not), talk to He Youzai in the same spot to show him Research Journal – Scrap 2, which you get from beating the boss.

  Once you’re transported to Annalum, He Youzai’s standing next to the building you exit. If Fang Yao’s questline is on track, she’ll be with him.

Fang Yao

Fang Yao’s a big deal and tied to He Youzai’s story.

• Key Item: Shu Silk Scarf – Cloudspire – Hillswatch
  In the village, take the left path where there’s a shortcut ladder back to the Hillswatch shrine. Past a doorway with a blue interaction spot, use the Examine emote to grab the Shu Silk Scarf.
• Interaction #1 – Cloudspire – Snowpeak Pass
  Entering the city, look for a door on the left with a red bag enemy nearby, just before the next shrine. Give Fang Yao the Shu Silk Scarf.
• Interaction #2 – Cloudspire – Shaft Entrance
  Fang Yao’s right by the shrine. Talk to her and pick “Agree to help.”
• Interaction #3 – Cloudspire – Wedding Hall
  After beating Fang Ling, rest at the shrine to make Fang Yao appear. She’s sitting to the left of the shrine on the floor.
• Interaction #4 – Mt. Zhenwu – Battlefield Pass
  In the Refugee Camp, Fang Yao’s by the fire where He Youzai is too, if her questline’s on track.
• Interaction #5 – Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Annalum
  When you spawn in this area, she’s standing outside the building next to He Youzai.

Red-Clad Lady

The Red-Clad Lady shows up a few times and becomes an optional boss in the fourth region.

• Interaction #1 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  Past where you meet He Youzai, she’s sitting on the left near some wooden platforms. Talk to her for a Full-Grown Red Mercury.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Lu Mansion
  From the shrine, take the elevator down and follow the path until you can knock down a pillar for a shortcut. On the other side, she’s casting a spell on a tree.
• Interaction #3 – Mt. Zhenwu – Avian Dwelling
  Right by the shrine, say “I agree” to get the Divine Blessing spell.

Nian Suichang

Nian Suichang pops up a lot and can be summoned for three boss fights if you nail his questline. Finishing it gets you a weapon for the Legendary Collector trophy. Your choice in Interaction #8 decides if you have to fight him for it.

• Interaction #1 – Worship’s Rise – Lightzen Temple
  After the boss, follow the path out the locked door. He’s by a tree on the right before the village. You’ll get the Well Met gesture and a Bone Whistle to call allies in some fights.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  He’s by the shrine. If you already spoke to him earlier, he’s got nothing new. You can summon him for the next boss.
• Key Item: Mercurial Blood – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  You automatically get this from beating Feathered Priest – Lu Bingzhang on the top floor of Shu Sanctum.
• Interaction #3 – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  After the boss, talk to Suichang by the shrine and give him the Mercurial Blood.
• Interaction #5 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  After giving him the Mercurial Blood, head back to Reverent Temple. He’s by an injured guy he fed the blood to.
• Interaction #6 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  After beating Commander – Honglan and warping back, find Suichang in the courtyard by a door you can now open. Talk to him twice—before and after unlocking it. If you didn’t give him the Mercurial Blood, he’s gone after this.
• Interaction #7 – Cloudspire – Hillswatch
  In the village, he’s sitting on the right side of the path before the tower.
• Key Item: Tattered Pack – Cloudspire – Hillswatch
  Past the tower with two NPCs, grab the Tattered Pack from the grass to the left of an enemy on the path.
• Interaction #8 – Cloudspire – Hillswatch
  Go back to Suichang before the tower and give him the Tattered Pack. Your dialogue choice here shapes the end of his questline:
  - Pick “Expose Nian Suichang” to get the Sorry emote, but you’ll have to fight him later for his weapon.
  - Pick “Remain Silent” to skip the fight, though you miss the emote. This is easier if you don’t want a tough battle.
• Interaction #9 – Cloudspire – Rebel Camp
  He’s on the left before the boss arena door. Summon him for the fight, then talk again for 3 x Special Pills.
• Interaction #10 – Mt. Zhenwu – Refugee Camp
  In the Refugee Camp, he’s by a fire with Magalhaes and vendors. If you picked “Remain Silent,” he’ll move to a spot you can’t reach yet.
• Interaction #11 – Mt. Zhenwu – Refugee Camp
  After beating Bo Sorcerer, follow the path from the boss arena, take two rights, and find Suichang near a shortcut door to the Refugee Camp.
• Interaction #11 – Mt. Zhenwu – Zhenwu Antechamber
  After South General – Liu Wenxiu, climb the scaffolding and head left toward the Refugee Camp. Suichang’s by a shortcut door looking at the boss room. Summon him for Fierce Tiger/Sovereign – Zhang Xianzhong.
• Interaction #12 – Mt. Zhenwu – Zhenwu Altar
  Post-boss, head through the back to a cave. Suichang’s by a fire if you’ve beaten Perfect Bridge – Fang Ling. If not, come back after that fight.
• Interaction #13 – Worship’s Rise in Ruin – Shu Sanctum
  From the shrine, go upstairs and right to the cliff top. Depending on Interaction #8:
  - If you picked “Expose Nian Suichang,” he’s a red-eyed enemy by a statue. Beat him to get the Zhanlu Sword.
  - If you picked “Stay Silent,” he’s on the cliff edge. Talk to him, Enter the Dream at a shrine, and return to grab the Zhanlu Sword from the ground.

Xuanyangzi

Xuanyangzi hangs out mostly at Reverent Temple but shows up elsewhere too.

• Interaction #1 – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  From the shrine, take the shortcut bridge from the Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu boss spot. Climb the cliff path, then go right down platforms to a small building. Xuanyangzi’s there with 3 x Purple Camellia.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  After hitting the Doomwillow Beach shrine, go back to Reverent Temple for 5 x Steamed Bunny Bun from Xuanyangzi.
• Interaction #3 – Worship’s Rise – Corpse Pits
  After beating Reborn Treant – Soulwood, head to the bamboo forest. Xuanyangzi’s across a wooden bridge with 3 x Fixed Origin Pills.
• Interaction #4 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  Post-Commander – Honglan, talk to Xuanyangzi back at Reverent Temple for a Growing Red Mercury.
• Key Item: Mad Doctor’s Research Note – Cloudspire – Shaft Entrance
  In the shaft area, find the altar room (same as He Youzai’s note). Grab the Mad Doctor’s Research Note under the balcony.

  Show Xuanyangzi the Mad Doctor’s Research Note.

  In the shrine room, check a shelf left of the Storyteller on the second floor for the Zhenwu Temple Scriptures.

Boatman

The Boatman’s a cryptic figure who’s key for grabbing a weapon for the Legendary Collector trophy.

• Interaction #1 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  At the game’s start in the courtyard, talk to the Boatman to move forward. You’ll fight two enemies and the tutorial boss Bai Kru. Beating him gets you 5 x Red Mercury Essence.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Corpse Pits
  In the Tang Emperor Palace, find a riddle door before the optional Tang Palace Maid boss. Answer wrong (correct answer: “The winged ascension”), and you’ll warp to a garden. The Boatman’s there digging a hole.
• Interaction #3 – Mt. Zhenwu – Ferry Overlook
  He’s sitting on the dock by the boat to the Bai Mansion optional area.
• Interaction #4 – Mt. Zhenwu – Ferry Overlook
  After beating Monstrous Toddler – Bai Kru, talk to the Boatman here for Li Jiao’s Fang weapon.
• Interaction #5 – Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Palace Pass
  After beating Vermillion Feathers – Honglan and interacting with the door, you’ll warp to a new area. Talk to the Boatman by where you spawn for a Blood of Changdong.

Storyteller

The Storyteller’s a mysterious guy who helps you get to new areas.

• Interaction #1 – Worship’s Rise – Lightzen Temple
  Past where Nian Suichang stands, follow the path to a cave. The Storyteller’s in the middle, giving you a Bamboo Shoot.
• Interaction #2 – Cloudspire – Bride’s Boudoir
  In this area, he’s near the elevator back to the Shaft Entrance shrine, just before the bridge to the boss room.
• Interaction #3 – Cloudspire – Wedding Hall
  After beating Perfect Bridge – Fang Ling, Enter the Dream at the shrine. The Storyteller’s to the right and warps you to a cave leading to Mt. Zhenwu.
• Interaction #4 – Mt. Zhenwu – Pavilion of Knowledge
  In the shrine room, go to the second floor. He’s sitting left of the exit. Pick “Heed the warning” for a Bamboo Shoot.
• Interaction #5 – Mt. Zhenwu – Zhenwu Altar
  Post-boss, head to the cave out back. Talking to the Storyteller here moves you to the fourth region but locks you out of Worship’s Rise, Ferry Overlook, Bai Mansion, and the optional boss. Finish everything you need first, then pick “Continue forward” and “I press ever onward.”

Li Dingo & Sun Kewang

These rebels show up a few times, and you need all of Li Dingo’s interactions for a Legendary Collector weapon.

• Interaction #1 – Cloudspire – Hillswatch
  Past the village’s stone tower, find them by a fire. Talk to both.
• Key Item: Secret Letter – Mt. Zhenwu – Avian Marsh
  In a tree hollow with two bird enemies, grab the Secret Letter on the right before them.
• Interaction #2 – Mt. Zhenwu – Zhenwu Antechamber
  Left of the shrine, Li Dingo’s on the floor. Talk twice to give him the Secret Letter.
• Interaction #3 – Mt. Zhenwu – Ferry Overlook
  Both are on the left path of the dock. Talk to them, then Enter the Dream at a shrine and return to grab the Serpent Fang weapon where Li Dingo was.

Honglan

You fight Honglan as a boss twice, but one NPC interaction gets you a Jade Pendant for the Pendant Gatherer trophy.

  After a big enemy, find Honglan in a cage on the right.
• Key Item: Dungeon Key – Cloudspire – Bride’s Boudoir
  In the next room, kill the red-wearing enemy for the Dungeon Key.
• Interaction #2 – Cloudspire – Bride’s Boudoir
  Go back to Honglan, give her the key, and get the Coiled Dragon Pendant.

White-Robed Elder (Zhao Yun)

This guy shows up a few times for some quick chats.

• Interaction #1 – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  On the second floor, he’s on a balcony left of an old woman looking at the shrine. You get a Plumed Branch.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Doomwill Beach
  From the shrine, head uphill to the right, then left to find him.
• Interaction #3 – Cloudspire – Cloudspire Outskirts
  From the shrine, enter the tall building on the right, go outside, and climb ladders to the second level. He hints at lighting signal fires.
• Interaction #4 – Cloudspire – Hillswatch
  From the shrine, take the right path through breakable objects to a cave leading to Mt. Zhenwu. Stick right at the split to find him in a dead end.
• Interaction #4 – Mt. Zhenwu – Refugee Camp
  In the Refugee Camp, he’s left of the bridge near a ladder to the Avian forest. Pick “Agree” to make him summonable for the Bo Sorcerer boss and keep his questline going. Skipping this locks you out.

  Post-cave with an enemy on a platform, he’s on the right before a shortcut to Avian Dwelling. Summon him for Bo Sorcerer.

These family members pop up a few times with consumables for chatting.

  On the second floor during a cutscene, talk to Qiao Lin on the floor for a Peachwood Amulet.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  On the second floor, give the old woman by the shrine the Peachwood Amulet for a Divine Gift.
• Interaction #3 – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  After beating Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu, talk to her again and give her the White Jade Dumpling from the boss.
• Interaction #4 – Cloudspire – Hillswatch
  Right of the shrine, give Qiao Ling a Steamed Bunny Bun for 5 x Divination Crescents.
• Interaction #5 – Cloudspire – Snowy Passage
  Take the left path, open a house’s front door near the first corruption pillar, and go upstairs. Agree to help Qiao Ling for a Bamboo Tube hinting at signal fires.
• Interaction #6 – Cloudspire – Snowy Passage
  After beating General of the North – Ai Nengqi, return to Qiao Ling, pick “Give her news of Ai Nengqi,” and give her the second White Jade Dumpling from the boss.

Young Boy

This kid’s near Reverent Temple for a couple of chats.

  Exit the courtyard, go right up the path, and find the Boy behind a fence at the top.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  Same spot as above—talk to him again.
• Interaction #3 – Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple
  After hitting the Refugee Camp in Mt. Zhenwu, return to the Boy. He’ll make pained noises but won’t say much.

Child in the Jar

A weird kid you can give items to for rewards.

• Key Item: Dough Figurine of Mu Guiying – Worship’s Rise – Lightzen Temple
  From the shrine, head toward two enemies by a building. Grab the Dough Figurine nearby.
• Interaction #1 – Worship’s Rise – Lightzen Temple
  Past Nian Suichang, stick right and enter the first house. Give the Child in the Jar the Dough Figurine for the Draw Circle emote.
• Key Item: Bloodied Steamed Bunny Bun – Mt. Zhenwu – Battlefield Pass
  From the shrine, go left, take the second left by a rooftop enemy, then right to find this by another enemy.
• Interaction #2 – Mt. Zhenwu – Refugee Camp
  Across the bridge from the White-Haired Elder, give the Child the Bloodied Steamed Bunny Bun. Enter the Dream at a shrine, then return for a Tattered Paper.
• Interaction #3 – Mt. Zhenwu – Refugee Camp
  Post-Bo Sorcerer, find the Child by a campfire near a bridge to a shortcut door. After hearing tent dialogue about a boat, choose:
  - “Tell of the boat waiting at the dock” for 3 x Full Grown Red Mercury. They move to the next spot.
  - “Keep quiet about the boat” to find the Ceramic Jar helmet and the Dough Figurine after Entering the Dream.
• Interaction #4 – Mt. Zhenwu – Ferry Overlook
  If you told them about the boat, find them at the dock’s left end for a Bamboo Shoot. Enter the Dream and return for the Ceramic Jar helmet.

Huang Jian’e

This woman’s questline lets you summon her for the third region’s final boss and get her armor.

  She’s on the main floor between merchants. Talk to her for the Zhenwu Hairpin headgear.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  After beating Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu, give her the Trinity Bell from the boss. Enter the Dream, then talk again for a Recovery Pill. She moves after this.
• Interaction #3 – Cloudspire – Snowy Passage
  From the shrine, go left through a gate to a village. She’s in a house on the left, giving you the Zhenwu Tome.
• Interaction #4 – Cloudspire – Snowpeak Pass/Snowfall Palace
  Find Li Wansan for the next item:
  - If you fought General of the North – Ai Nengqi, he’s on the path to Cloudspire City after He Youzai. Give him the Zhenwu Tome for a Red Mercury Crystal.
  - If you skipped the boss by lighting signal fires, he’s by the Snowfall Palace shrine before the palace steps. Fight him for the Red Mercury Crystal and his armor.
• Interaction #5 – Cloudspire – Snowy Passage
  Give Jian’e the Red Mercury Crystal for a Radiant Red Feather and a Fixed Origin Pill.
• Interaction #6 – Mt. Zhenwu – Zhenwu Antechamber
  In the temple, she’s on the floor at the bottom of stairs on the main path. Talk for a Fixed Origin Pill and to summon her for Fierce Tiger (with Nian Suichang if his quest is done).
• Interaction #7 – Mt. Zhenwu – Zhenwu Altar
  Post-boss, Enter the Dream. She’s on the ground left of the exit. Talk, Enter the Dream again, and grab her armor set where she was.

Magalhaes & Buglio

These Christian missionaries give a unique consumable from Magalhaes.

• Key Item: Medicine Case – Mt. Zhenwu – Battlefield Pass
  Before the Refugee Camp, grab the Medicine Case from a white spot by a summoner enemy near a gravestone.
• Interaction #1 – Mt. Zhenwu – Refugee Camp
  Right of the shrine, pick “Agree” with Magalhaes for the Pray emote. Give him the Medicine Case for an Arnica Ointment.
• Interaction #2 – Mt. Zhenwu – Avian Dwelling
  Post-Bo Sorcerer, follow the path right and up into a cave. Talk to Buglio—your response doesn’t matter. He moves regardless.
• Interaction #3 + Key Item: Sacred Token – Mt. Zhenwu – Altar Gate
  Before the boss door, grab the Sacred Token on the stairs. Buglio’s nearby, looking at the door.
• Interaction #4 – Mt. Zhenwu – Refugee Camp
  Give Magalhaes the Sacred Token for another Arnica Ointment.
• Interaction #5 – Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Annalum
  He’s right of the shrine. Talk for a final Arnica Ointment.
• Interaction #6 – Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Palace Vegetable Garden
  In the garden (via the Benediction gate), find Magalhaes in a hole near the fence.

Yonder Ging (Children Gang in Cloudspire)

This crew in Cloudspire Palace has a tangled questline with Shen Yangping (butler), kids Shen Jiang’an, Matchstick, Glut, and Madam Huang Yan. Your choices get you different armor.

• Interaction #1 – Cloudspire – Cloudspire City
  Past the door to the shrine, go behind buildings and up ladders to find Shen Yangping. Pick “Agree to help” to find wedding attire.
• Interaction #2 – Cloudspire – Cloudspire City
  Behind the butler, go right into a building to find Matchstick and Shen Jiang’an. Talk to Jiang’an first and pick “Agree to join the gang” for the Great Yonder Antler Cap. Talk to Matchstick for the Celebrate emote. He moves after.
• Interaction #3 – Cloudspire – Cloudspire City
  Near the shrine, break items on the left to enter a cave. In the market area, find Glut in a tent before a shortcut. Pick “News about joining the Great Yonder Gang.” Then:
  - “Search for Shen Jiang’an” keeps him in the kids’ building.
  - “Search for your Master” sends him to Shaft Entrance, where he’s killed. Grab Glut’s Token from his body.
• Interaction #4 – Cloudspire – Cloudspire City
  Back at the kids’ building, talk to Jiang’an for the Wedding Attire.
• Interaction #5 – Cloudspire – Cloudspire City
  Give Shen Yangping the Wedding Attire. He asks you to pass it to the Madam.
• Interaction #6 – Cloudspire – Cloudspire Outskirts
  From the shrine, go through the right building, outside, and up a ladder to a corruption pillar. Take the left path past cannon enemies, enter a house, and find Matchstick looking at items.
• Interaction #7 – Cloudspire – Snowfall Palace
  In the palace, hit the elevator button to the top floor. In the left room, give Huang Yan the Wedding Attire twice. Then:
  - “Tell of the butler’s betrayal” kills the butler, kids, and Glut (if alive). Grab Glut’s Token and the butler’s armor from their bodies.

  Through the palace, hit the elevator pressure plate. She’s on the top floor by a shrine.
• Interaction #3 – Mt. Zhenwu – Pavilion of Knowledge
  Post-shrine room, she’s on the main path along wooden platforms.
• Interaction #4 – Mt. Zhenwu – Bai Mansion
  She’s in the cave to the boss room.
• Interaction #5 – Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Burning Cave
  Before the boss arena, she’s on the right by the wall.

Bamboo Courtyard Woman

In Worship’s Rise’s Bamboo Courtyard, this woman behind a door trades items.

  From the shrine, head toward the village via rooftops or an invisible ground path. Follow the river toward Reverent Temple, then left to Bamboo Courtyard. At the two facing houses, talk to the woman at the left door for a Courtyard Key and a request for an item.
• Key Item: Damaged Letter – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  In the village, go up the hill to a courtyard with enemies. Use the Courtyard Key to open a door on the left, go upstairs, and grab the Damaged Letter.
• Interaction #2 – Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum
  Give the woman the Damaged Letter.
