One of the reasons that the Nether is amongst the hardest zones in Minecraft is that players cannot sleep in a bed while inside it. To respawn inside the Nether, they would need to craft a Respawn Anchor instead. In this article, we are going to show you how to craft respawn anchors in Minecraft to revive in the Nether.

1 - How to craft Respawn Anchors in Minecraft

To create a respawn anchor, players need to gather three glowstone blocks and six obsidian blocks. Both of these components are native to the Nether. Afterward, place them on a crafting table in a formation based on the picture below.

  • Glowstone

This is a light-emitting block that occurs in branching structures, found hanging from ceilings and overhangs in the Nether.

  • Crying Obsidian

It is a luminous variant of obsidian that can be used to craft a respawn anchor and produces purple particles when placed. Crying Obsidian can only be mined with diamonds and netherite tools. It is fairly rare, as you would need to track down a Ruined Portal, or a Bastion Remnant in the Nether. While the former is guaranteed to have some Crying Obsidian as part of the frame, the latter is completely RNG via chest drops.

Actually, you can also obtain these ingredients for crafting a respawn anchor in the Overworld through various methods:

  • Glowstone can be obtained from trading with villagers or wandering traders, or crafted from glowstone dust dropped by witches.
  • Crying obsidian can be found in ruined portals or trading with piglins.

Crying obsidians are much harder to obtain - you might need to find multiple ruined portals.

2 - How to use respawn anchors in Minecraft

The texture of the block changes each time a charge is added, and the first piece of glowstone would give the anchor a light level of 3. Each additional piece of glowstone after the first increases the light level by four, up to a maximum of 15. The charge is indicated by a dial on the side of the block.

Charging

Players need to charge the respawn anchor to set it as the revive point in the Nether. When crafted, a Respawn Anchor has no (zero) charge and can't yet be used until charged. Players can use up to 4 glowstone blocks with it to charge.

Set respawn to the anchor

It works the same way as a bed - players just need to click on the respawn anchor to set the location. However, it must have a charge at the time of the click. If successful, a confirmation message will appear. Multiple players can use the same anchor and each revival will cost one charge. If the charges are depleted, players will respawn at the world spawn point.

Similar to a bed, respawn anchors can also explode. If you try to use it in the overworld, the block will create a massive explosion with a level of 5, destroying surrounding blocks and creating fires.
