Thumper is an action rhythm game from developer Drool that was originally released in 2016 for PC and consoles. In early 2018, it was ported to iOS under the title Thumper: Pocket Edition. Now, this mobile version has finally made it to Android.
Thumper Launch Trailer
The gameplay of Thumper is described as "rhythm violence," and that captures the essence of the game pretty well. Death is practically unavoidable here, and the many flashes of light and distracting colors certainly don’t help either. At the beginning of each level, you are sent barreling down a seemingly endless path similar to an endless-runner game. The controls are all about tapping, swiping, or any combination of the two, all to match the rhythm of the music. The game has a total of 9 levels for you to zoom your way through, with a couple of bosses here and there to keep things interesting. Additionally, there's a game+ mode if the “regular” speed is not enough to satisfy you. Thumper can be played in portrait orientation, and it supports 60 fps.
From today, the game is available on Google Play Store at a price of $4.99 (Rs 355). Being a premium app, it has no IAP or advertisements, so you don’t have to worry about getting interrupted midway through. It also supports Google Play Games Services which grant access to features such as a leaderboard, achievements, and auto sign-in. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support physical controllers, so you’ll have to make do with the touchscreen.
The Android version of Thumper: Pocket Edition might have taken more than a year to arrive, but it’s totally worth the wait. If you are a fan of rhythm games then you’ll no doubt have lots of fun with this title. Hopefully, the lacking features such as landscape orientation or physical controller support will arrive in the near future. As it is right now, the game still offers at least 8 hours’ worth of content, which is not bad at all for its price.
