Now not SEA limited, Garena has issued a report of Free Fire’s performance in the second quarter of 2020. The parent company of the massive title sees record-breaking results. While the ongoing global pandemic is putting the whole world’s economy at a standstill, the gaming industry, and mobile gaming, in particular, has consistently shown strong numbers. Of course, a part of this comes from the fact that conventional forms of entertainment such as sports and films have also been on hold. It’s the perfect condition for people to discover mobile gaming as an entirely new form of entertainment.
Free Fire Records Over 10 Crore Peak Daily Active Users
According to the report, Garena Free Fire saw a record-breaking number of players during the second quarter of 2020, with over 10 crore peak daily active users in the game. App data and analytics firm, App Annie, announced that Free Fire was also the third most downloaded game and the highest-grossing mobile title in Latin America and Southeast Asia. The Sea Limited report points to Garena’s massive revenue. In July 2020, the parent company hit a new record in monthly adjusted revenue, which mostly comes from Free Fire. The number of paying users in July is more than double that of the previous year.
Free Fire continues to grow in mobile-first regions such as Southeast Asia and South America and has already become one of if not the dominating title. With more than 10 crore peak daily active users, it’s very likely that the game owns a larger player base than other more well-recognized titles in the BR genre such as PUBG MOBILE and Call of Duty: Mobile. The fact that Free Fire has achieved massive success in just a few years is nothing short of impressive.
Collaborations with mainstream celebrities and artists such as DJ Alok or footballer Lucas is one of the key factors behind the Free Fire's popularity. Recently, the game announced a partnership with a popular Netflix show, Money Heist, and is planning to release themed in-game items in September. The title has also been working relentlessly to dish out content in the form of digital advertisements, music videos, and constant events.
Localization is also a smart move from the parent company Garena. They adapt to the local tradition and language, use them as the base for incoming events. In esports, the recently concluded Free Fire All-Stars Asia Championship has garnered over 2 crore view times. In the second quarter, Free Fire Esports streams across all platforms and streams clocked over 12 crore views in total.
