1. About artifacts in Genshin Impact

Main Stat

Each character has five slots for artifacts. While Flower and Flume are always HP and Attack, Sands, Goblet and Circlet can have varying main stats. Consider discarding if their main stats are not what you need.

Substat

Unlike main stats, sub stats are completely random and artifacts with the same name and rarity can have completely different stats. This is why farming artifacts in Genshin is super tedious.

Sub stats cannot be the same as the main stat. Every 4 upgrade levels an Artifact will receive a random substat if there are less than 4, or improve a substat if there are already 4.

2. When can you farm the best Artifacts?

The drop chance for artifacts increases based on your adventurer rank level. The best time to farm for artifact substats is AR45 onwards when clearing domains gives you guaranteed 5-star artifacts. Before that, it is best to focus on completing regions and doing activities to increase your AR level. Characters with AR35 or below have nearly zero chance of getting a 5 star artifact from domains.

Step-by-step process to farm the right artifact:

At AR45, clear domains and beat its boss for 5-star artifacts drop.
Raise artifact level to 4 to add a new substat if you have less than 4.
Check if the stat is suitable for your build then go back to 1.

Due to the high drop rate, it is recommended to save up as much Fragile Resin as possible when reaching AR45 in order to farm 5-star Artifacts continuously.

What to do when out of Resin?

Ruin Hunters, Abyss Mages, Mitachurls and Hatchlings are free to farm when they respawn. Only claiming rewards for Domains, Hypostasis, Regisvines, Lupus Boreas, and Oceanid costs Original Resin.

Focused Farming via Co-op

Due to the Fragile Resin cost for clearing bosses, it is recommended to focus on one or two particular bosses at a time. Since most of the bosses have a short respawn timer you can continue to farm your boss of choice by jumping into Co-op and farming with friends or random players.
